Also, while I got you kayak enthusiasts on here I need some direction

I want a tandem that I can pile my two kids in and paddle 3-5 miles comfortably.. but also one I can paddle solo and fish from

I’m well experienced with paddling. Mostly canoe, but I know the strokes and know how to handle myself in a boat so I don’t need a beginners rig. I’ve paddle tandem canoes solo in some gnarly conditions so I know what I’m getting myself into lol

any advice? Don’t wAnt to spend much more than a grand or so

    open to all suggestions

It's gonna be $$$$ but the new tandem Hobie with the new peddle drive. Solo you sit center tandem one of the kids or wifey can also peddle and you'll be able to go for longer and fit the 2 kids.

So it looks like the stopped making it but the pro angler 17t you'll have to buy used but they have some.others like the mirage and what not.

The hobie peddle drive patent has ran up so there are others out there that'll be good. I picked the 17t because of the width stability and flat deck so easy to take the whole family out and versatility for solo trips.

You can get pretty deep in those too. I'd look at some of the Natives or Pelicans. They are decent for the money. I would say make the trip to Gboro there is a really good paddle sports store there but that's a bit of a haul.

Those in my family that are falling for the mind games are really getting starting to annoy me. I got no less than 4 text/phone calls yesterday with fear over the storm..... School went to all remote yesterday even for those that do in person on thurs. It was nuts. I hate this culture of fear.

What kind of paddling? Lake or river? Both? If river how difficult?

If you're paddling with two small kids in one boat I think an canoe would be the best bet. My dad paddled both my brother and I down up to class 3 rapids while we were smaller. We could swim, helmets and properly fitted PFD's. Once we got older and bigger my brother and I split up. One in my mom's canoe the other in dad's canoe

Edit- very happy my parents got me on the water young and into the sport of whitewater kayaking and canoeing!

Shit our scout troop was doing that no helmets. We just had PFDs and most of the time we sat on them because whitewater and kneeling in a canoe gets a bit tiresome. Needless to say we were a bit on the safety 3rd kinda group but had a shit ton of fun.

There are sections of the Haw that get fun especially when the water is high we have a good place to launch near us. Also some good fishing down the river as you float. Right at it's mouth where it dumps into Jordan Lake there are some big Flat Heads.

Little disappointed that Jackson no longer has the Cuda fishing yak. IMO that was their best model and it's crazy good in rough water. I have the Cuda HD.

I know this isn't a tandem but get some stadium cushions and the kids can ride that's how mine rides

This is an awesome store in Gboro it's where I got mine. They do demo days weekly and you can schedule a specific yak or multiple ones to demo. Look at some of the bigger Fishing single seaters they may work
