Moving the ECT button

Has anyone moved the ECT button from the middle to the left side of the steering wheel?
I find the OEM location to be cumbersome and would like to re-purpose the middle location for the USB port.

 

Not seen that done, but I’m sure I saw mesojdm selling the connectors to allow you to do this easily.

 

I dont think it should be too complicated to just splice in an extension so it can be mounted in a spare switch hole on the left side. When I do it I will post some pics.

 

It will be super easy, I just hate cutting into factory wiring, it’s kinda hack. I avoid it if at all possible.

 

When I do the mod I will use similar gauge wire, soldering and heat shrink tube the connection.

 

Will the switch match the blank? I think you need a new switch since Toyota liked to use 3 different kinds.

 

This is what people who haven't messed with the switches don't realize. For some reason the switches have different bases. It's infuriating.

 

I will for sure be test fitting it in the LS hole before cutting any wires. It looks the same from initial inspection.

 

One guy on here moved it to a button on the end of the emergency brake.

 

You can mod the switch with a file and such. If its a direct fit, even better though.

 

Finally got around to moving the ECT button to a more practical location.

@MESO made me a single switch holder.

 

I will also be doing this install soon for the channel. Came across a Toyota small double switch blank that will work in the exact same location with just a tiny amount of fab. Posting here to make sure to give you credit on my install video.

My ECT is always on unless I turn it off.

 

Fyi, MESO makes an ECT button single switch holder for the ECT button relocate.

 

I went with a foot controlled switch. super slick, just flip your left foot and it turns on, flip it again and it turns off.

@OP, there's a guy named Bob at https://kabowest.com/ who makes specialized harness to move the ECT switch with enough length to wherever you want to move it to.
Cutting into body panels, interior dash is not my thing, but moving to the left side of the steering wheel, you can tell him to make it with that objective in mind.

 

I got the MESO TRD shifter knob with the buttons. Put the ECT button on that. Works so perfectly. Just habit to hit it every time now.

 

I have the Meso always ON ECT mod added a long time back.
But now that I got OV Tune, I don't think I'm going to need ECT.
I can't believe how much of an improvement to the driving quality adding the OV Tune was.
Those guys at Orange Virus spent hours and hours and did a spectacular job tuning this vehicle.

 

Our 85 4-runner had the switch between the front seat's and the O.D. on the shift handle.
