A guy started a thread wanting to use Tacoma's as a template to paint on the bottom of skateboards.

I would hope that would be part of the deal.

Just had cruise control installed in my truck and the whole dash had to come out to do it; Got the truck back and this light is on...

Auto-LSD engages and disengages just fine; Also gonna have to bring it to the dealer tomorrow anyway to get the ECU programmed for the cruise control (my mechanic recommended going to the dealer anyway), so I’ll have it looked at then...

Just wondering if anybody could give me any insight on here...?

My parents surprised me by paying for the installation of cruise control in my Tacoma as a birthday present; The cruise control is 100% installed, but the ECU won’t recognize it. The place that installed it recommended going to the dealer to have the ECU programmed, and says that the ECU should not have to be replaced (I hope not, because as much as an ECU costs that would effectively put an end to this project).

My mechanic, who is far cheaper than the dealer and generally more competent than the dealer, even recommended going to the dealer as he did not have the resources to reprogram the ECU.

My truck is going to the dealer tomorrow to (A) get the stupid traction control reset, and (B) get the ECU reprogrammed. Is it really that simple?

Did it ever work? Was it using the DIY OEM parts or the Rostra kit or another kit? The ECU does not need to be reprogrammed. Something else is up. On an auto the thing is pretty simple as long as the wires are routed correctly. I think I read of another DOA after install when I was shepherding the CC section in another forum. Seems like it was a new stock defective from the factory.

Rostra; They used an ohmmeter or something to test if there was power going to the unit, and they were actually on the phone with Rostra during the install. Apparently everything was functioning perfectly, but it is under warranty for a year. The little green “CRUISE” light is not illuminated, either...

If it turns out to be an ECU issue that would be the very first I have ever heard, and I have looked at a lot. There were a very few trucks that did not have the little green "Cruise" light on the dash but those were just a couple trucks IIRC. Just for fun, can you actually see a faintly ghosted area on the instrument cluster that says Cruise where it ought to be?
    Please keep this updated.

Did they by chance have the steering wheel off? Not sure what was involved with the install but im wondering if the steering angle sensor (located under the clockspring) maybe got disturbed or maybe didn't plugged back in.

    Maybe...

The red “AUTO LSD” light doesn’t illuminate either.

Is the wheel straight when your driving straight?

Sure seemed like it; Nothing seemed amiss about the the way the truck drove...

On another note, recirc button on the HVAC controls always seems to be on when I restart the truck after it’s been sitting for a while.

I would want to have the ABS codes read, it may be as simple as recalibrating the ABS ECU.

The recirc should stay where you last had it unless you have your temp control set to max then it will force the recirc on at power up.
