nice, I did hear that people do get different tunes based on what fuel they want to run, that much I did understand.

    I appreciate the info!

From my understanding the acceleration hesitation and the gear chasing not an issue on the 2020 or 2021s.

So you mean to tell me, when people have been asking me about 3rd gens, and I have been tellin them not to buy a 16-19, that I have been doing the world a service?

    I kid I kid.

But I can honestly say...I have driven a 16, an 18, and a 20.....and every few years, they feel soooooo much better. The 2020 is really a great truck, I am very pleased with it!

I didn’t want anything above a 17. I bought my truck in 19 and it was hard to find a 17 that had under 15,000 miles on it. Me personally I didn’t want one of the newer ones with all the tech or safety sense stuff. I agree I am jealous of my buddy that has a 2021. But if I had to do it over again I would still go with a 17.

Well, at least it is good to know that this tuner software is out there to alter any issues or concerns you had! So that is super cool.

Again I am not a tech person so somebody can probably explain better about the tune then I can.
All I can state is that the truck drives much better than it did before the tune.

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a tune. Have read this thread from front to back (lots of good detail) https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/vf-tuning-collaboration-and-bs.693221/ and this new one started by @PapaRee for his most recent collaboration w/ @TWTaco https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-kdmax-performance-tune-by-paparee-and-twtaco.713699/

    Lots of good info

For automatics, it adjusts the shifting points so that it tends to stay in the RPM range that is actually useful instead of shifting up and down constantly.

I have a 2020 as well and I was kind of on the fence, but there are certain situations like going West bound on I-70 which is a lot of uphill where it would drive me crazy. It's settled down a lot after the tune.

The tune for manuals and automatics are pretty different. For auto's you basically take into account different factors such as tire size/gearing/fuel octane/regular or enhanced throttle response and that dictates which tune you'll get (most everyone wants the enhanced throttle response). To some degree the ECU is "octane learning" which I'm not totally sure to what degree it works, but I believe using premium octane fuel with a regular octane tuned engine is fine, but regular octane fuel in a premium octane tuned engine is not ideal.

For manuals its basically 1 tune, Super FOB Reg OL (which is the one you received). The other tunes provided for manuals relate to dump tubes and what not.

These performance tunes are ones that members of Tacoma World have created themselves using the VF Tuning software. The issue with this is the authors of these tunes never intended for people to take them and then charge other people for it with no compensation. I'm working with @PapaRee to tune people with his KDMax performance tune (https://www.tacomaworld.com/conversations/kdmax-6-0.2589760/) and I ensure that he gets compensated if/when someone gets tuned with it.

I've been running the KDMax tune to test it out and it's pretty nice. If you need someone to flash it for you, I'm your guy.

Well that and she trusts no one that we don’t absolutely need to see due to covid. Maybe after we’re both vaccinated but for now we wait.
That KDMax tunes sounds pretty good though.

His 2020 probably has the software fix that a lot of our 3rd Gens were lacking. I was an early adopter of the OVtune and it really helped with the gear hunting issues when driving through rolling hills. It also helped with some off the line boost. Here is the TW thread on the tune. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-toyota-tacoma-ovtune-1-05-tune-development-thread.495735/
