ive been eyeing the ms462 with a 25 or 28” bar for the bigger trees that have fallen on the property. I already have a ms180 and ms250 but they’re 1/2 the power and only 14 & 18” bar. I considered the 500i but for the exorbitant cost of a fuel injected saw the 462 gives it a run for its money.

You look at the Holtzformma saws? I was looking at the Stihl 660 clone. It’s like $280 vs something like $1,500 for the Stihl. I rarely need a saw that big but having it would be sweet when I do.

never heard of them... I’ll give it a look at 1/5 the cost... stihl has been my go to for chainsaws for years.

Give them a look, they use Stihl parts, they’re a clone. I’m sure they have shortcomings over a real Stihl but for the few times I need a large saw, i’d rather only be into it for a few hundred rather than $1,500. My standard saw is a Stihl Farmboss and it does fine with the 16” bar but it doesn’t have enough ass for much more.

I’ve lost so many tall pines in these past few wind storms that I could pay a tree company thousands to chop up and remove or spend a little bit of money on a decent big saw that keeps on giving...

Pending everything with the deal goes through, I’ll be picking my new-to-me jumping jack camper trailer next week.
I’d never heard of them until I found one for sale and it seems super practical. Nice comprise between a roof top tent and a hard sided camper

I just got a diehard agm 24f for the LC about a month ago. It had an extremely old interstate 27f. So far so good, but I don't have any fancy aftermarket stereo or expo lights for trips to target or anything. I also replaced the 7.5A starting system fuse with a fused diode so the alt will output 14.5A instead of the stock 13.8-13.9A so the agm stays charged.

It should be a nice dual purpose. Hunting fishing basecamp that can be easily setup as well as a nice family tent.
Figuring out a 12v system/lighting, a center curtain, and a heater setup (propane vs diesel)

I started a separate thread for it if anyone has any input. I’m not too up on the latest heating, 12v systems, lighting, etc for the off-road camping world

In reality does your 4runner have a 3 or 7 pin hitch? If it's 7 pin it should also charge a battery. You can wire up a deep cycle off of the hitch wiring to keep it charged. Unless you're staying out for extended periods of time and running your espresso machine/ vitamix constantly solar is a waste of money. A decent deep cycle will be able to keep a fridge going over a weekend if you're cool enough to have one. For heat you can run a propane heater from a camper/RV. There's also the little diesel heaters that people use in tents/ RTTs. Those should work as well. I've seen a bunch of relatively cheap DIY's on the portable diesel heaters. But really the best solution is warmer gear and sleeping bags.

That's alright, my bigger saw uses more gas than my smaller one

Interestingly, the GF got me a Makita chainsaw for my birthday. A 14 inch bar, takes two of the 18v batteries that my drill uses. I haven't actually used it yet, just took it out and zipped a few limbs off of tree that came down this winter to make sure it works, so no idea on battery life. Not something I'd ever have bought myself, but I can see where it'll be handy if I just need to zip up some brush or something.

Which log cabin? The one at the corner of Center & Pond, or the falling-down one up on the mountain?

Either way, it wasn't that neighbor. We were hanging out with the 'camp' neighbors. They just got a salt water hot tub and wanted to show it off.

Yeah 90 percent of what I do would be considered brush. I’m just trying to clean my sight lines and the dead shit off the ground so the woods look nice and “clean”.

I know, talk about someone with too much time on their hands.
