1: don't get a fuse block with a negative bus. There are plenty of factory ground points on the truck and you'l run less wire if you use the factory ground points instead of running wire back to the fuse block.

2: Put the Blue Sea fuseblock in a plastic project box.

It's because typically they're for marine applications where there isn't usually a good grounding point (fiberglass). But you're right typically not necessary in a car or truck. In fact most people seem to be mounting the block under the hood. Unless their appliances were there too I'd think that would be a bad place to mount it. Why not run one 8 or 4 gauge wire through the firewall to a fuse block instead of 6, 8, or 18 single 14 gauge wires through to the cab? Also, one typically wants the shortest run of ground cable, so why run it all back to the negative bus (other than aesthetics)?

For comms (ham, CB, etc), it is good to run the ground all the way back to a ground on the fuse block as opposed to a chassis ground

See as of late I've heard the contrary. As long as the chassis components are well grounded (straps et al) the running of the ground wire back to the battery is old school. I know all the mobile radios still instruct to do so and are wired to go back to the battery, but I feel that's a little excessive, more possibility of ground loop or rf interference. Hmm, I've chassis grounded my rig and am getting "full quiet" reports from others. Also, why run twice the wiring back to the bus on the fuse block? Many vehicles have multiple points under the panels that couple the grounds of a lot of components used in it. I think if you have adequate (size and condition) wiring you will be just fine.

    Nice installs.

Here's the thread that yall were talking about earlier. I've been selling the panel mounts for a while now. Just now having time to get back into it. Here's my thread on it and a picture of the install for ideas:
