Cargo Dividers - recommendations?

I just purchased a 2017 Tacoma Access Cab and I'm looking for a cargo divider to keep smaller items secure in the bed. I like the style of the OEM cargo divider, but the note that it doesn't work with tonneau covers and the position of the adjustment knobs on top have me concerned about compatibility, since I'm looking to install a BakFlip MX4.

Any recommendations? OEM divider for reference

 

Swap the brackets from L/R and put the knobs on the bottom.

Worked great on my '18. Got the divider used on C/L for $75 because the owner couldn't make it work with his cover.

I use that OEM divider with the "knobs down" and the horizontal knobs to the rear. I find that they are easier to access when the forward area is packed with gear. It is a nicely engineered bit-o-kit.

 

So I just acquired my 2021 Tacoma SR5 ACLB and have ordered the Bakflip MX4 on word from Bakflip that the OEM Divider would work knowing that the Tacoma rails will drop some 1.5" after being reattached to the MX4 brackets/hinges. This information would suggest that there was some 1.5" of space from the divider bottom end to the bed mat (OEM in my case) or bed liner that comes with the truck when rails are in original location. I do not mind at all rearranging knobs etc to accommodate the free flow of divider while underneath the cover.

What are your experiences?

Was your install of OEM divider with MX4 a success?

So I had the BakFlip MX4 installed yesterday, and the shop that did the installation advised the divider would be too tall to work with the factory rails after the MX4 install, due to the fact that the MX4 requires that the factory rails be dropped down...

Sadly, they were correct, but for the wrong reason. The height is actually perfect (though a bit snug with the OEM bed mat -- it's the width that's a problem. With the way the spacers sit, it doesn't just lower the rail, but moves it in about a half inch or so on either side. With the rail pushed in like this, there isn't enough room for the divider to drop in to the mounting brackets.



If I can find someone to cut the "arms" of the divider down somewhere between 1/4" and 1/2" on either side, I'll be in business. Otherwise, I may be SOL and in need of a different divider.

 

Aluminum cross rail? That trim would be a 3 minute task for any carpenter with a chop saw or radial arm saw. I have both... ;-)

Let me have dibs if you decide NOT to keep the divider.

Hmmm... I might be able to find access to something like that... just need to figure out what sort of blade is safe enough to use.

Aren't the replies from 9mmMike and Mojlnir indicating that they were successful using OEM divider underneath the MX4 maybe by flipping brackets L/R and dropping knobs down?

I have gotten your request about the fitment of the BAKFlip MX4 and the Toyota accessories for your 2021 Tacoma. The deck rail system would be dropped by about 1.5" so it there would be room for the accessories you mentioned to fit together. I am looking at the Bakflip MX4 and have watched a video on the installation on to a Tacoma. It detailed the dropping of the Toyota supplied bed rails to attach to the MX4 brackets to allow for their continued use. Just wondering if this mod allows for the installation of Toyota OEM bed divider (PT76735200) and the Toyota OEM Cargo Net (?). I am assuming that the Cargo Net hooks up to hooks that will slide into the Tacoma bed rails.

One inch from each side of divider (hacksaw). Brackets flipped to place divider knob underneath.

 

Was this with the OEM Tonneau? Can anyone confirm that this will work this way with the OEM Tonneau? I want the divider, but I have the OEM Tonneau, which I like and intend to keep, so I am trying to confirm that they will work together.

 

Yes, flipping the knobs (which I have done) is sufficient to provide enough vertical space, but as I stated, the issue isn't the vertical clearance, it's the horizontal.

If I can chop about a half inch off the cross-bar on either side, it should fit fine.

I wish someone would sell me a OEM divider. They are like a unicorn in Georgia used. I would even drive a bit, but can not find any in the area at all.

 

Thanks to all the posts here. I have been using my bed extender for a divider, but it is inadequate a lot of the time because it is in a fixed position. I will use it when needed to extend my bed, but I am going to get a divider now that I know that it will work with my factory tonneau.

 

Does anyone know if this will work on a 2013 Tacoma? This part superseded the older ones, and don't see anything else for 2013's. I will need to flip the brackets for the tonneau. Thanks.
