If they call you back, ask them why it won't upshift from 4th at speeds above 65

at first i thought it was gearing, but every time the dealer did an update to the computer it would resolve this issue for about 500 miles, so it really made me re think gearing problems

Well a regear won't make it worse and if it doesn't solve it at least you have new gears when they finally do get it fixed.

The reason is because the ECU learning allows for the ECU to "learn" that this rpm is most efficient for the conditions you are driving. That is why the issue resolves for 500 miles after a reset only to come back.

Your truck is operating exactly as designed by the Engineers at Toyota, and the flaws are in the ECU code.

If you want to wade into the weeds of vF Tuner, this flaw can be fixed by modifying the 17 different transmission torque tables that control when the truck shifts.

Been there, done it.. ain't working on any available versions of tunes since October 2020. I bet yours is not working either. If you downshift to 4th somewhere between 70-80 mph, you will be stuck in 4th even you hit a level ground.

Incorrect. My truck will reliably and repeatably upshift from 4th to 5th at any speed, even travelling uphill. I accomplished this by tuning the transmission torque tables to my liking.

You can expect to see a big improvement from the unedited base tune. Although those tunes do still allow for some level of learning, you may find you do not need any further custom editing. If you do, there are forum members offering tuning services who may do something custom for you.

I'm just a forum monkey. @OVTune is the man.

I do not share edited tunes.
