Hello, I just bought a 2020 trd off-road from the dealer a month ago, the truck has a 3in toytech full suspension lift with upgraded leaf springs, it’s sitting on 17in fuel wheels with 285/70/17 BFG tires, everything was put on by dealer prior to purchase, truck now has 3k Miles on it, I am having an issue when truck is cruising at 80mph it will not shift out of 4th gear most of the time and be ringing it’s neck at 5300 RPM for 5 plus minutes on a flat even highway even with a slight road decline, taken to dealer twice for them to just tell me it’s normal! I’m getting 11mpg I believe it needs to be re geared, dealer will not help although they built this truck and had it on display as their “dealer special upgraded truck” paid 47k for truck and they won’t do nothing, any help or ideas? I will attach link to video of exactly what it’s doing!

I don’t have much to offer honestly. Mine has done that once or twice but pretty sure it was on a slight incline and it has definitely never held gear that long. Only like 5 seconds at most and again, it only happened once or twice. Will it end up shifting up if you give it gas?

Yes it will shift if I push it up to 5500 RPM but if I let back out of gas a little it will automatically go right from 6th and shift twice down into 4th and do this

How deep is your foot into the gas pedal at that speed ?
5th gear as well as 6th gear are both overdrives . Do you have a scan guage to see if you have any codes ?
Transmission will not select overdrive if you have fault codes .

That’s on cruise control, to make it shift I have to practically push it to the floor, and yes I have a Snapon modus, it doesn’t have any codes, truck only has 3k miles, dealer says this is normal, been back twice now, they said programming is all up to date and nothing they can do for me

Seen this before . Let me see if I can find the post

Seems aftermarket OV tune fixes it
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/does-ovtune-help-cruise-control-shifting.674929/

You are not the only member with this complaint . Its very common with far less weight than what you have in your truck .
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cruise-control-high-rpms-on-hills.701417/

    Have you tried S5 ?

There are some 3rd gen modifications that can be made to counteract your issue

You can purchase a fiberglass hood with a functioning hood scoop for an additional 17 horsepower according to the member in the link
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/function-of-oem-hood-scoop.543994/

    Remove rear seats/passenger seat/interior carpet mod .
    Remove front/rear bumpers mod
    Remove spare tire mod
Remove transfer case / front diff / front driveshaft mod
    Glass swap to plexi-glass mod
    Fiberglass hood/fenders mod
Convert your truck box to flat bed mod
Convert your double cab into a convertible mod

That’s definitely not right or normal (and not good at all for the engine). If it were me, I’d call Toyota corporate and let them know their dealer is insisting that holding 5300 rpm at 80mph on a flat road in 4th gear for several minutes without upshifting is normal. They will be rebuilding your engine under warranty before long if this keeps up.

All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, j hooked waste gate
All I can offer you is to take it to another dealership. If that’s something that’s unreasonably too far out of your way then you’ll need to call toyota corporate office. Even with 285s that thing should shift and not turn that high of rpms for that long without shifting.

Toyota corporate would tell him to remove the lift and tires and return it to stock.

This truck was built by the dealer prior to purchase and not by my request, dealers said since they put it all on and certified it and that the truck was brand new they warranty it all, they put everything on themselves even roof rack and light bars

Maybe, but I would ask why’d they let their dealer install and sell it like that then. Dealers are still held to corporate’s standards, as it costs corporate money to fix problems that arise from things like this... Even though there are 1000s and 1000s of lifted Toyotas with big tires that aren’t rolling at 5300 rpm at 80 mph.

Are you still within the return period? If they aren't going to help you out, elevate the concern or get out from under that truck ASAP.

I personally would not believe a Dealer's claims of everything being under warranty. If you were on a cross country trip and had a breakdown due to some of those parts l am not so sure the closest Toyota Dealer would take care of it. If you go back to the Dealer that did those modifications l can see much less hassle though.
