First thing's first, so happy to finally be part of the community! The names Bravo, I just bought my first Tacoma last year. I didn't plan on making major mods, but I definitely want bigger tires. In order to keep the Fox suspension that came with the TRD pro, I've noticed a common mod is to add a shim in the front and add-a-leaf in the back for clearance. (I want to run 285/75R16 BF Goodrich KO2s)

Would this be the best way to go about going bigger? Would a differential adjustment be required? How bad will the MPG get since this is my daily driver? Any comments, suggestions or words of advice are greatly appreciated!

Welcome. But this is, unequivocally, the number one question asked on TacomaWorld. So much so that it's a running gag. "Whats the biggest tire I can fit on my truck without a lift" is esentially a meme.

There are, literally, thousands of threads all asking this exact same question. I'd suggest doing a search, particularly in the tires section and you will find more information that you ever knew existed.

Shim lifts, like you describe, are crap. They have a very high fail rate. When you lift a Pro, you basically ruin where the internal bypass valves are in the shock and negate the Fox suspension. There is a thread on here about a different spring on the front, but you'd want to match that with a new leaf pack.

As far as MPGs, going bigger will hammer how your truck feels. Bigger/heavier tires will make your truck feel slow and lethargic as well as really cut into your fuel mileage. A lot of this has to do with putting LT/E rated tires that weigh well over 60lbs, as opposed to SL rated tired that are closer to 40lbs.

The Tacoma is also one of the highest geared vehicles on the road today. Big tires exacerbate that even further. If you want bigger tires, you'll probably want to regear your truck to deal with the taller tires.

Apologies for the ignorance. I see this isn't as simple as I hoped for.
