I run a 10.5 wide tire on a 8.5 wide wheel. My wheels are thrashed since theres no protection, and I air down to ~15psi wheeling, and below 10psi in the snow. One thing I've done, is wrap the outer safety bead with 2/3 wraps of duct tape to make the tire a tighter fit on the wheel. Works great

I wonder if the tires you got run large for the given size. You should be at least an inch less in diameter than those running 255/80 who report no rubbing. Or maybe your truck is sitting lower in the front? Just by comparing other pictures in the thread with stock suspension, your gap between your front wheel and the rear of the wheel well seems no smaller than those with the bigger tires.

I am planning on installing the Bilstein shocks as my stock ones are toast, and when I do that was going to lift the front by the smallest amount available with those shocks which I think is .65", or maybe do 1". Hopefully that would eliminate the risk of rubbing.

I ran my 35x10.5 on a 8.5 wide wheel for a week in Moab at 10 to 15psi. Folded the tire over the wheel a couple times, bottomed out the wheel a couple times rallying through the desert, and grinded the wheels on every rock there. Never debeaded suprisinglyPSX_20210503_184802.jpg

Much thanks and looks great! I have a coworker that is practically giving me his TRD Pro suspension, and I am seriously considering ditching the OME setup I have to go back to "stock". Wanted to see how my 255s might look on the Pro suspension.

Edit: Is your suspension completely stock (no AAL or spacers)?

How have these been working for you? Any rubbing? Do you run stock suspension too?

And what about desert driving ? When the wheel is fully cycling up down constantly + turning?

I quickly realize how full of sh*t (not saying you) every tire thread was when anyone said; "X,Y,Z tire clears". I think it's coming from people who's suspension never ever gets close to bottom out (street use / lifted ) or if they do off road it's the typical turtle off roading where "flex" matters. So even then you rarely fully bottom the tire for extended periods of time. The most difficult situation for tire clearance is desert trails with lots of suspension cycling. From my experience the biggest tire you can clear with no rubbing is 265/75r16. I want to run these tires but I'm sure it will hit the inner fender at turn and cycling through woops.

I completely agree with you, there are folks on here that post don't rub but don't specify in what scenario which can lead to false information then you're down the drain a few grand with something you probably didn't want. This is why I underlined "city driving".

I’m actually just realizing that my 265/70R17 WP AT3Ws are rubbing on the upper control arm on stock 2020 sport rims.

I’m also lifted two inches or so, but I guess when off-roading it’s running a bit.

I’m also rubbing somewhere else on the lower portion of the suspension (I can hear/feel it) when in reverse at full lock.

For me though it’s a function of the larger tire with +30 offset. I’m sure if I had t4r pro wheels I wouldn’t have this issue.

I’m hoping that eventually when I go to 255/80 that I won’t have issues on the UCA, with that tire being more narrow.

If you don’t have a bracket lift or different lower control arms, lift doesn’t affect up travel/rubbing.

For me, fitting the 33x10’s (255/80/17 or 255/85/16) on my 4Runner TRD Pro 17’s required trimming a little bit of plastic on the rear bottom portion of the front fenders (where a mud flap would cover), a bit of hammering the pinch weld (not sure this was required but did it while in there) and some heat gun work to the fender liners. It also required my alignment to have 2.0 degrees of caster (stock upper control arms). I have zero rub on upper control arm, frame or anywhere else while somewhat aggressively off-roading through full articulation forward and reverse, turning and straight.

Thanks, yes suspension is fully stock. Would consider the lift with heavier springs from Eibach if they ever produce it. My front is down about 5/8” due to steel front bumper and winch.

I likely missed it mentioned somewhere in the thread but would anyone here see an issue with running 235/85/r16 on my stock off road wheels with a small lift?
Just doing OME 886 front coils, rear is bilstein 5100 and OME add a leaf.

I'm not overly educated on suspension stuff. (sorry)

*shouldn’t* be. That’s only 1 1/8 inch taller overall, and slightly more narrower.

Zero issues. There’s a thread hanging around somewhere dedicated to 255/85/16 on stock offroad wheels and stock suspension with plenty of clearance. An even skinnier tire will be just fine.

Hey guys, ive been looking through this thread and had a few questions, hope someone can chime in. Im running a Eibach 2.0 coilover lift, about 2.5ish ift up front the and the Level 8 MK6 wheel in size 17x8 - 0 offset. Does anyone see any issues with running a 255/80 tire. Most of the post ive seen are running Sema wheels which are 7 inch. So how would an extra inch in wheel width affect fitment? Thank you!

Vs. I was thinking of going with a 275/70. simply because wanted to go as tall as i could without having to do a CMC.
