Every situation is different but the fact that you had to ask in such a circumstance is absurd.

It’s not about the $4 in and of itself it’s about how a customer feels they are being treated and valued after plopping down some serious jack on a major purchase.

I get where dude is coming from

Is that a deal breaker or would it make me regret the purchase? Not for me but the move would rub me the wrong way and as such I appreciate where that guy is coming from

I can’t believe we are still talking about $4.

Simple fix, if you want this supercharger and this incident rubs you the wrong way just confirm that your kit comes with the sticker.

I could have simply refused to pay the additional postage, contacted Magnuson and let them know that they accidentally sent it with postage due and either wait for them to front me the money or resend it without postage due. That’s the part that seems to be overlooked here, it was an accident.

Good context. Believe me it’s not the $4 - my truck is 7months old and I’ve done a rear disc conversion, front bbk, bilstein 8100’s, air bags for towing, 4.88 gears, front e-locker, rock sliders, meso, etc etc - The magnuson is the last piece of the puzzle and just waiting for them to get CARB for the 2021MY. It’s really the principle. Glad it was an error and they did the right thing an reimbursed you. That was a bit like “calling collect” (for an old timer reference).

Except calling collect is deliberately putting all expenses on the receiver.

Speaking of old timer references, this is what this incident reminded me of:

My order for my 2021 came with the CARB sticker. Not sure if it's actually approved or not but the sticker is there so it at least looks like it.

Maybe, but that's another pretty chunk of cash. It's not that the Tacoma tows unsafely or anything, it's just not as good at doing it with ease like other tow vehicles I've used. Downshifting puts me back in the powerband when towing and when not towing it will still accelerate up hills in 5th and 6th as long as the rpm doesn't drop below about 2k before trying to accelerate. I think changing the gearing might be more of a headache on long highway trips with higher rpm and lower fuel economy when not towing than it would be a benefit while towing. I drove 560 miles today without the trailer from my house over the Rockies, passing over the pass at 11,300', starting and stopping at 5,800' on each end of the trip. Having the supercharger makes a huge difference going over the mountains and I still averaged 18.8mpg doing normal highway speeds up to 80mph.

Edit: I also have an extra 15lbs per wheel with SCS wheels (7lbs lighter than stock) and 255/85/16 ST MAXX (22lbs heavier than stock). That doesn't help with mileage or low end throttle response.

When spoke to them they can’t sell or ship to CA for MY21. Hopefully gets solved soon. I see you’re in CO so maybe that’s why.

That’s good info. Will report back if I’m ever able to get mine. Gears definitely are pricey but transformed the truck for me. Hard for me to say on mileage - I haven’t noticed much if any loss. Any given cursing speed is about 200rpm higher, but gets off a light so much better towing. It will hold 5th and sometimes 6th towing my 6x12 enclosed loaded up for a race weekend with bikes and gear (maybe maybe 3k lbs). Planning on towing an 8x20 enclosed auto trailer so preparing it for that . Not exactly the ideal use for a Tacoma but I didn’t want a full size and wasn’t a fan of the other midsize options for different reasons.

I'm a picky bastard and I'm hoping for a better tune (had OVTune prior and had great drivability) but its worth it to me and I don't regret it at all.

I’ve got about 6K miles on mine now since install. I am happier now than when I first put it on. The reliability is great. Keeping up with the OV Turbo thread makes me very happy I chose the Maggy.

they (Magnuson) is still working on the CARB for your year model - likely it will happen soon and then they will be able to ship to your State.

Agreed 100%. Painful to see what is going on over there especially for the $ they paid and not to have CARB.

As someone who has taken an NA motor and added forced induction (Turbo on a VW 2.0 8v) I would give OVT a huge round of applause with all that he's put together. Creating a kit from scratch is no easy feat and I would say that for an experimental first run they are doing GREAT!

And I bought the Maggie still.

Not yet. Magnuson is the only one that has fully rolled out.
URD only has a handful of kits out locally to them.
OVTune is working through their original orders and making improvements for a full release it seems.
Procharger looks like it’s been released, but I’ve seen almost nothing about it yet.
Here is one recent thread with one user.

On one of the other threads I posted about an issue with noise from my supercharger at idle. Like marbles in a can. The problem started recently after 8months of driving.

magnuson is honoring my warranty request with no fuss. They are sending me a replacement nose drive. At the moment they are on back order, but they said it’s safe to drive in the mean time and that it is only a noise concern.

they also provided instruction to replace the part. It looks like it will be no big deal except having to remove the top cover and reapply sealant (old versions of the kit don’t use a gasket.)

I was worried about how they would treat their self install customers, but it looks like all will be well!
