I love the RI light products... but even I think that price is ridiculously high and not worth it. Here is some simple math. 6 LEDS x 5W/LED = 30 Watts. Each lamp produces 2600 Lumen. That is 86.7 Lumen/Watt. A quality 35 Watt H.I.D. will produce 3200 Lumen with 35 Watts: or 91 Lumen/Watt.

A pair of metal fog lamp housings can be retro'd to H.I.D. for much less money and put out more light at a higher efficiency. Granted they won't be as bulletproof as the RI setup.

FWIIW, I have the 'old' duallies on my truck. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/lighting/131465-rigid-industries-dually-led-lights.html

    Cheers

How is the aim of the HIDs versus the LEDs? The retrofit HID tend to poorly focus ( compared to stock).

Anyone know if there are amber filters for the LEDs like some other lights?

OK, so I'm a blatant thief of ideas. Added the LED's to my fogs. They ARE brighter than the fogs, sort of. Definitely blue in color, versus the more yellow tone typical of incandescent lights. I wonder if the LED's are being overdriven (based on color), and if so, real life expectancy (50,000 hours would come down if being driven at a high power).

To remove the fogs, go under your bumper. There are 2 circular "tabs" on either side, plus a small adjusting dial that acts as a tab as well, located at the end of the light. Once you pop the sides (can be tough), pop the back dial and the light pushes out forward. Undo the power harness.

Kind of a pain to aim, but it was discussed earlier. I used the same carriage bolt diameter (5/32") that came with the light, 2" in length. Added 2 1/2" nuts as spacers, with a washer, before threading the light through the hole (in the bumper, above the small square hole at the back/bottom). Once I got one aimed how I liked, I pulled it out and lay it next to the second light, and adjusted both to the same angle.

Insert both lights, plug in, remove and fiddle with aim, repeat until you're happy!

Pictures on my digital, set for night with the flash off. Taken over the cab, facing my garage (if you need a good condition double bed, let me know!). LED's only:

    With headlights on:

All my lights: PIAA 520 ambers (I think!), Lightforce 170 HID, SilverStar headlights and these:

My only concern? Lots of power draw! Headlights are 55W each, the PIAA are 85W each, the 170's at 35W each, and the LEDs at 10W each. That right there is 370watts. I don't know the draw of the interior cockpit lights, tail lights or parking/turn lights, but even with the Tow pack I think I'm REALLY pushing my alternator if I run them all. Maybe time for a 2nd battery? Anyone know?

Could you PM me and run me through when I should worry? I've taken basic physics and stuff, but still not clear on when I shoudl worry - (12 V batter, 370W being drawn). I mean, V=IR, and I get the amps, but how much load can the engine carry?

    Thanks.

It is more an issue of our alternator. At idle you might have about 90 amps from the alternator. If you assume that 50 amps are overhead (it shouldn't be anywhere near this high), you would still have 40 amps at idle without battery fill in. Unless you are trying to drive a big stereo system or winch, I wouldn't sweat it.

Here are some pics of the new D2 LED lights from Rigid Industries. These lights are very bright for their size.

Here they are mounted on the truck temporarily until I get my bumper put back on.

Your probably right, but ill have the light bars to back me up if i need it.
One of the things i like about my light bar is it doesn't shake when im driving over rough stuff, my KC's used to rattle pretty bad.

That is definitely one of the huge advantages using these lights. There is no bouncing or shaking. These lights are very strong and sturdy.
