Transmission rear seal leak

I noticed this leak today. Not sure what the part is called. Leak doesn’t look too bad. What’s the part called and should I fix it or get it fixed by a shop?

I know the pictures don’t work but it’s a write up.

 

I would do it myself. Seems for you it will be easy since you have a 2wd so you don’t have to worry about the transfer case.
Just drop the driveshaft and pop out the old seal and put in a new one

You pretty much nailed it. Rear main seal. If it's slow enough you can just keep an eye on it. A shop will probably charge around $1K to do the work

Are you confusing a rear main seal (engine) and a transmission output shaft seal?

Any shop wanting to charge $1k for an output shaft seal replacement should be prosecuted for extortion.

Can you tell us if it’s Engine Oil or Trans Fluid. The tail shaft seal on the Trans shouldn’t be too bad.

 

It’s trans fluid I’m pretty sure Bc it doesn’t look like the same viscosity as oil

 

Then it is probably the output shaft seal.
It shouldn’t be bad, or cost a lot if you have some one else to do it.

 

I paid $120 at my dealership.

 

I was referring to the main seal for the shop cost but I guess a pic of the OP's leak would have been more specific.
