water drip, small hose on firewall

I just noticed a small water drip behind my right front tire. I traced it back to a small hose coming out of the firewall on the passenger side. The hose in open ended and about 3 inches long. Seems to be a constant drip, just started today. Anyone have an idea what this is? I can snap a quick pic if needed

It's the drain hose for your AC condenser. Nothing to worry about.

There is a mod to extend it below your frame rail. Just a small coupler, hose clamps and a small peice of hose and you're golden.

 

It's the A/C condenser overboard hose (I don't know the technical name). Its where water condensation drains away from the vehicle.

Yeah, if it ain't dripping, you'll soon have water sloshing around on your passenger side floorboard!

 

Used split vinyl tubing to redirect condensate to the outside of the frame

 

That is your clean water source should an apocalypse occur, remember its location.

 

It's strange that I've owned the truck for 8 years and never seen it dripping before

 

It drips every day.

You only noticing it today doesn't mean it isn't normal.

Definitely recommend the extension "mod" mentioned above--super easy and prevents the A/C condensation from dripping onto your frame.

 

I'd be more worried about all the road washup and crap during a rain storm than I would be about freshwater condensate dripping on the frame.

 

It's less about how clean the water is and really more about often it happens. If you drive your truck everyday and use your A/C everyday, you're going to have water dripping there everyday. Over time, that's going to rust.

It's not uncommon to see a nasty rusty mess on the frame right under the spot where the A/C drains.

 

Well I run my AC nearly everyday, even in the winter. It is a 2012 nearly 10 years old and there is no rust. I do however wash it every 3 months or so and spray under it with freshwater.

Sounds like you've gotten pretty lucky in that case. It can happen relatively quickly. If you aren't having that issue, then no biggie. But it's easy, inexpensive, and that can help mitigate a potential issue.

Posting here because my search game is not yielding the results I want.

I think my drain hose may be plugged.

This is new, ac drain always functioned as intended up until about 2 weeks ago. Frame rail and hose are now both bone dry with ac on max.

Preferred method to check for a clog? Was thinking about running a cloths hanger or something similar but I’m hesitant because of 1.) potentially damaging the condenser and 2.) if it is clogged pushing all of the shit inside of the box.

Hoping to disconnect the outlet hose from the box and run something through it to the outside of the truck.

No water build up in cabin filter, glove box or floorboard with daily ac use over said time frame. Outside temps have been upper 90’s-110. Relative humidity single digits to mid teens.
