Tailgate Actuator Install Help

Does anyone have a good video install of an actuator for the tailgate? I recently learned you can get an inexpensive actuator on Amazon and install it to the tailgate to open it with your remote. I thought the pop & lock system was it so I was surprised there was a cheaper diy alternative.

While likely not as inexpensive as what you're thinking ($150) it's the Toyota part. Super simple install.

The main wiring harness included with the OEM kit is worth it's weight in blood, sweat, and tears.

I'm assuming that's the one that'll work for the DCSB? How's it's build quality compared to some of the after market options out there?

 

The OEM kit is FAR superior to any others.

 

The OEM kit is awesome and lines up plugs in and works flawlessly. Like every else has said a little more pricey but in the end worth every dime.

 

Honestly I thought it would be more robust but comparing it to others, yeah it's significantly better. I read mixed reviews if it would work on my trd or dcsb. There was concern about if the grommet pass through under the seat existed or not. It was a painless install.

I can't imagine getting the long would be the worst thing in the world if the short is unavailable (provided you have a short bed). You're only zip tying all the excess cable anyway... What's a little extra.

 

BAM Wholesale Parts has it for $129 + $12 shipping. Will save you a few bucks over Amazon.

 

It's a long shot but any chance this works in thr 2015?
I'm not thrilled being stuck with the pop-n-lock

 

If the tailgate mechanism is the same, yep. I think either way, the kit uses inline spices to get at the door lock triggers, which you likely can identify.

 

I believe the physical parts in the tailgate are different in the 2nd Gen trucks. Also, the harness has connectors that plug into existing connectors behind the kick panel, there are no wire splices.

 

Look into the Pace Edwards version if an OEM version isn't available. All the info I gathered regarding this stuff was from the 2nd gen forums. Pace Edwards had good reviews, PnL started strong but ended weak, and dynapro had some customer service issues.

I'm going to install my Toyota kit later today. Got it from BAM was About$10 less than Amazon. Looks like it's going to be easy just take a bit of time to do.
