    Hi all

So my bilstein 5100s up front are over 90k miles, looking rough and driver side is clicking a little. They're overdue to get swapped out.

I'm looking at going up to the 6112s. My question is - what kind of ride difference is there going up to the heavier coil? It seems like a good way to future proof the vehicle if I get a steel front bumper.

Right now I have a 09 DCSB 4x, with the v6. Pretty much the heaviest stock configuration.

I would love to future proof it, but not at the expense of making the ride harsh for no reason. Any opinions? I did email one reseller and they told me "That depends on your need. The 650 is an option that some choose." yikes on that vague answer! I won't say who because I otherwise like them, and everyone has an off day. Any thoughts?

And if there's a thread on this that I blew by and missed feel free to link me up. Thanks!

I appreciate that man! I don't think they offer a 700# coil but I could be wrong. That's the wacky thing with the bilsteins, theyre all paired up. But last time I had to install my eibach coils with hand crank spring compressors.... never ever doing that again. Yikes that is sketchy.

It depends on the weight you carry. I carry ~450 lbs of armor, winch and bumper. 600 lb springs are ok. Wish I had 650 lbs.

I'm all stock up front weight wise now - but if the 650 raises me up 1/4" more, maybe I can drop to the second from the top setting and be perfect. And be future proofed on adding weight. That's my harebrained idea anyhow.

Yeah, some vendors offer 700# as an option and others say 650# is the max.
    I have eibach 700#.
    Installing end of this month.
Going with 3rd or 4th clip and a 1/4" top plate spacer on each side.
Fyi, when buying my 700# they were selling the 600# for under $20.
Bought mine through a vendor that offers a trade in program in case I want 650's.

What clip are you using and how much did it give you?

That is cool. I saw someone here selling coils only, went looking to see if I could buy struts only and match them up myself. No dice. Initial purchase has to be both shock and coil. I would like to do it once and be done with it, but I don't want to shoot myself in the foot and make the ride harsh for no reason. To compare I have the eibach performance coil on now, which I think is a 600# coil. Better than my stocks, it doesnt nosedive if I stop hard. That's held up by bilstein 5100s that have 90k miles on them. 6112 seems like a great budget friendly(er) way to upgrade.

Okay so 6112 on gen3 vs 6112 on gen 2 is an entirely different coilover. The giant ass front end of the turd gens are like 300lb heavier.

I just installed TRD BAJA PTR13-35120AA (supposedly a 650lb spring) springs in 6112 for a gen2 2014 AC 6MT. I have a US Off-road slim bumper(70lb) and warn evo-8s(65lb). I put the clips at 75% preload on both sides and got 2.25-2.5” of lift initially. Might settle a 1/4” I think.

So half a liter less engine but it's heavier? That's crazy. I got the regular coils, couldn't be happier.

Not only that but the TRD 6112 rebrands for third gens have two perches for left and right side that the 15’s and prior model years don’t have.

Wacky. When I unboxed I made sure the part number was the same on each so I didn't need to worry about right and left.

I’m speaking about the TRD shocks for 3rd gens, which are secretly 6112 bodies. Actual 6112 from the store should have 6 notches for third gens? (Idk I have a 2nd gen)

I have a 3rd gen but I recently put on the 700# springs by bilstein. They’re meant for the 8112’s but work very well on the 6112. I have bamf skids and will be soon adding a bumper and winch and even without them currently the ride isn’t any harsher. Hope that helps. I believe they’re the 53-291394

I would get the TRD BAJA springs IMO. It’s the route I went and it seems to have good range. On zero preload on a stock BAJA the springs are suppose to give 1.5-1.75” of lift. So if your plan is to always use more than that amount of lift (from extra weight or extra height) then 650 is a good base starting point. The stock configuration of the 6112 is designed for zero lift. Do you actually ever want that? I’d guess no.

My 6112s are one clip down from the top, matches my icon rxt s2 leafs perfectly. Ride feels nice too. I discovered some damage to the anti sway bar linkages, odds are it will feel better again once I get the parts swapped out on that.
