There’s a frame waiting in San Fran for me. The issue for me is time off work is impossible to get.

found out my evaporator has a leak, should i shell out almost 200 for a denso replacement or will a rockauto (four seasons) evaporator work just as well?

Denso tends to be more reliable. And that job isnt one that I’d like to redo. (Granted it’s not that bad. But still)

Whichever way you go, I'd also replace the pressure switch and expansion valve while you're in there. As @Empty_Lord mentioned, it's not a terrible job, but why dig in there more than once if you don't have to. And all new o-rings as well. And, consider a new receiver/drier, since you're supposed to replace that any time the system is not holding pressure.

If you've not done it before, I took a bunch of photos when I went through the process. Shout if you have questions.

awesome thanks for the info, did you go with a denso unit as well? I got the expansion valve and o-rings, Ill have to order a drier and pressure switch.

I originally went with an OEM condenser, because I figured the first one lasted 18 years so might as well "do it right." Unfortunately, the OEM one I got leaked out of the box. Because I was headed out on a trip in 2 days, I got the only one available at any parts store for 50 miles. It was a NAPA Temp, which I wasn't super thrilled about, but I had no real choice.

At any rate, one thing I noticed with it - that I didn't notice with the OEM evap core - was that when I removed the "cap" on the two holes where the expansion valve connects, it was like opening a pressurized can - air rushed in. Clearly, these things are meant to be shipped with a vacuum, and hearing that sound is a good indicator that you've got one with no leaks.

The evap core has been working great ever since I installed it, so ultimately I saved quite a bit over OEM...but if I did it again and had the time, I'd probably go OEM or Denso, just out of reputation.
