When we build our carport.. I'm planning on beefing the supports so I can use it as a hoist point for the camper if needed.

First night after install I drove up Highway 6 into the Tillamook Forest. There are several dirt roads leading up into the forest on either side of the highway. You'll see them. They all had various pullouts, and I just chose one and spent the night for free. This was because I wanted to go back to SP in the morning and get a few adjustments. Once I did that I drove out the Columbia and then down the coast, stayed in several established campgrounds. They were all nice, and I particularly appreciated that most had nice warm showers included in the site fee (unlike California). I tried to find a few 4x4 roads on the way but I was a little nervous about wandering around in backcountry, especially in the "Murder Mountain" areas near the California border. My favorite campground was Jedediah Smith just over the border in No. Cal. Also drove down the Lost Coast Highway 211 out of cute little Ferndale. Long trip but worth it. Came out into the Humbolt Redwoods and stayed there. Hit a few other places on the way down. Maybe some of the others here will have more specific recommendations, but that's what I did.

Just got my Big Agnes Camp Robber bedroll and it fits perfectly on the ExPed. (I got the 50” x 78” as that was closest to the size of the ExPed). I’ve been looking for something like this for a while. It’s a bit pricy but I’m worth it. Down, rated to 45 degrees, comes with a mesh sack, has pillow pockets (which is good because my pillow keeps slipping off the ExPed), and has double zippers if you need to open up the bottom or sides on warm nights. For those who don’t know the Big Agnes design is basically bedroll on top and mattress below. The mattress provides the lower insulation, saving space and weight. I considered the ExPed double bag but it got some bad reviews and I wanted something that attached to the mattress. I found mine at Backcountry but there are various sources.

Looks good! Can you access the inflate/deflate ports or do you have to reach under to pull that ~10" of material from underneath the mattress out and over those to access?

Gotta reach under or pull a corner off. I suppose I could have beautiful wife sew me some openings at some point. I figured I'd slip the bottom half on, let ExPed inflate, pump it the rest of the way, then slip top half on. I'm camping next week so I'll report in.

Headed to see Spencer tomorrow afternoon to put a deposit down for a X1

What are the most common things you guys have done to prep for install since I'll have 6+ months of waiting at this point?
    Anything else i'm missing?

    • My perspectives:
    • Tailgate, sure
    • Bedcaps, not recommended but SP can work around it if it's your burning desire (check with them on the official reco)
    • bedrug, sure feels good under food but can hold dirt and rocks
    • Boeshield t-9 ftw
    • Sure, but stock is fine just sucks on your knees

Ya know, if each corner of the top of the camper had a loop or place to attatch a hook, it would make hoisting it off of the camper really easy.

Good deal Roy! Mine is ready too. I'm headed out next weekend for an install on Tuesday July 20.

Are there any other Tundra tops on the road yet other than Jmyerz?

Installed on July 6th, SN# 0067! It was a great experience seeing the shop and talking with Spencer and the team. Now it's time to work on the little things like lightning, and figuring out where to cut weight from the truck.

What's the weight? I'm probably going to be around 6K once the bumper and camper go on. I just finished doing my Wilwood BBK today in preparation for the 35s and the added weight.
