Thanks for the write up. I have pretty much completed by BSP Satoshi and can't wait to put it on.

    Update with a couple pics...

All in all I am really happy with how well this turned out and for others out there debating it I had ZERO experience working with Bondo/Fiberglass. Key I would stress is take your time, tape it off really well from the start and sand, sand, sand, sand.

One potential problem I ran into was the seam between the outer portion of the grill and the inner plastic. I was worried about how this would come out when sanded and sprayed. I slowly and carefully taped over the entire seam and then cut along it with a very sharp knife so there was a clean separation from the portion I was working on and the outer portion of the grill I didn't want to touch.

I need to relocate the horns and darken things up back there a bit.

    So I have to ask:

While I REALLY like all that I am seeing (and I really want to do this mod) I do have one difference in mind; I want the grill/mesh material more flush with the front of the grill that isn't removed... I hope that makes sense... Does anyone know how to accomplish that look? This is more like what you would expect to see with a billet grill insert, only I want a type of mesh material.

There are two possible advantages to this technique: (1) more room to locate lights behind the grill and (2) a more flush streamlined appearance.

    What do you guys think?

Something more like this is what I had in mind, only I want to do it myself and save the dough...

I don't remember seeing anything called "timxrs" and a search didn't return any results. Who is selling them? I'll look through the thread again, maybe I missed it... :D

Actually, I did see that one. But I'm being picky... I want a finer mesh so it's harder to see into the engine compartment. That Satoshi insert is tempting though! I just want that perfect balance of concealing the engine compartment to enough openness to allow lights to be inserted behind the grill. Know what I mean? :D

Now that's what I am talking about! I had been looking through the different types that customcargrills.com offers and I had thought that I didn't like that one, but having now seen in installed it looks awesome! Nicely done! I'm still considering the diamond mesh, but that what you did looks tight! Dang, now I have more to think about...

Slightly different subject, I am looking at getting some Hella 500 Black Magics to potentially go behind the mesh, thoughts/opinions? Feel free to suggest some alternatives but try to keep the price around $100 (autoanything.com is where I found them for this price). Thanks.

Has anyone seen how people who have done a flusher mounting of the mesh/grill material attach the mesh/grill material to the grill? Is there a thread that shows how they achieved this look?

    Thanks!

Yes! That's exactly the "look" I want to achieve, only I don't want to buy it, I want to do it ALL myself. I have been looking at CustomCarGrills' "Small Diamond Grill Mesh" and would like to fit it for a flush-mounting. The best idea I've got thus far is to fold back the edges around what would be the flat forward facing 'plane' so that there is a lip to use to attach the mesh to the modified OEM grill insert.

Okay, so where words might fail maybe a picture will help:
