Tire recommendation - Mostly highway

I currently have the stock tires and it's getting time to replace them (28K on them).

To be honest, right now I do 99.5% highway driving (around 60 miles a day). There's not many places to off-road around here so I've recently joined a local 4x4 group so hopefully sometime soon I'll start going some off-road driving (beginner type trails).

I've been looking at the Michelin LTX A/T 2.

What type of tire would you all recommend?

I've been very impressed with the new Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61. It's an all terrain that's very quiet on the highway.

i have been a big promoter for Dueler Revos. Got a set with 70k on them and still have little lees than 1/2 tread remaining. Great tire on or off road!
Awesome to run 80-90 in the rain driving a truck.

 

Look at the Michelin LTX MS2. I have the LTX AT2 and I commute 160 miles a day on the interstate. I have 25,000 miles on them and they don't even look worn. They ride really well too. The ONLY downside of the AT2 is that they make a little bit of humming noise on the highway, especially in the 40-60 mph range. The LTX MS2 is super quiet. I have them on my wife's Tahoe. The only thing I like better about the AT2 is the fact that it has a more agressive look to it than the MS2.

 

Thanks for the tire info- I have been trying to choose between ltx at2 and bfg At ko- i decided to go with the ltx at2 because I had 80,000km on some ltx's on my 4runner when I traded it in for the tacoma. I'll let you know how they go (not much snow in the pacific northwest so far).

 

revo 2. good gas mileage, great in rain, snow, mild offroading, quiet too.

I just bought Michelin LTX AT2's and very happy so far. I drive 90% highway and they are quiet enough for me. I also like the looks of the AT2's over the MS'2.

I had LTX MS2's on my old mustang and I also put them on my wife's 4runner. They last a long time and pretty quite ride.

The only thing I don't like about them on the 4runner is how I feel like I'm "floating" all over the road... where in my truck I feel it's gripping better.

I'll look more into the Revos.

I'd stick with the M/S2's or the A/T2's personally. The quality is getting better with bridgestone, but their customer service blows. If you ever have an issue with tire, they'll pretty much tell you to buy a new one and sucks to be you. Michelin/ BFGoodrich are the only Customer focused company out there. They're more willing to help their customers in the event of an issue (belt seperation, alignment wear, tire issues, etc). For me as both a Tire Guy, and a consumer, that's worth it to me. I don't want a Tire that company that produces it won't stand behind it in the event of an issue. Just my opinion... Feel free to PM me with any other questions

I figured I'd try out Bridgestones only b/c I've found that multiple places selling their tires a Manufacturer Special Warranty: 30 Day Buy & Try Guarantee.

Michelin doesn't have that, so I figured I could try out the Birdgestones and see how I liked them... if I didn't like the way they felt I could return and get the Michelin tires.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Michelin tires... they last forever.. I ran two sets (Harmony's) of them on my mustang (so 140K give/or take)... 6 months ago I also put MS/2's on my wife's 4runner.. I didn't notice anything with them until I got my Tacoma (3 months ago) and started driving it all the time.. now when I drive my wife's 4runner I feel like I'm "floating" all over the road hahaha.

I haven't tried the AT's... but with the AT's I noticed they have NO tread-life warranty.

Great tire that will handle your daily driving and that occasional off roading Yokohama Geolander A/T-S. Quiet street ride with good capability in wet, and icy conditions. Not overly aggressive tread that handles light duty off-roading. tire weight is similar to stock. Treadlife is middle of the road. Got about 40,000 out of mine and probably could have squeezed another 10,000 fairly easily. Should get even better life on a Tacoma that spends almost it entire life on the road.

 

Toyo Open Country AT and Cooper Discoverer ATR both were good truck tires on my '05 Taco and quiet on the highway.... worked fine 4 wheeling in Baja.

 

One more question - Mine are the P265/70-16, is everyone recommending the same or did they change the size?

Another vote for Bridgestone AT Revo 2's

 

I think michelin makes some awesome tires. I have run bridgestone tires and I am not impressed with them. they were not as good in slick conditions as the ms2 are. Another really good choice which I am running on my f350 and will probably put on my tacoma when I wear out the stock tires, is the Hankook daynapro rf10. They are quiet and are excellent in all conditions.

Just finishing the first 7,500 miles on my LTX AT2s and I love them. ... ... have the same color truck too ...

I've got about 50k miles on a set of Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10's on my F250 and am very impressed. I'd say I've got at last another 10k miles left.
