I ran mud flaps on my 2nd gen with 255/80/17 on 8.5” wide wheels with -10mm offset. All with ~2” lift. I did have to modify the flaps for clearance, but it’s doable. All these trucks are different though.

I’m currently running modified mud flaps on my 3rd gen with 265/70/17. Should still be able to keep them on if/when I go up in size as well.

You may know this but 255/85/16 and 255/80/17 are essentially identical sizes for 16” vs 17” wheels. If one fits or rubs the other very likely will as well if all other variables are identical.

What tires were you running, and how much offroading do you do? There is a good bit of variability in that size - STMaxx is around 32.7", Ridge Grapplers are on the bigger end at 33.3". I did start to modify the mud flaps to fit but fucked one up so just took them off. Will make a bracket to mount them to the cab mount, eventually.

    The smaller STMaxx.
No hardcore wheeling. Just general Tom foolery from time to time. Had them fully stuffed many times and never had any issues. Well at least not on the cab mount/mud flaps. I’d rub on the front bumper/plastic in some situations. Just never bothered to address it.

Below is my current set up. Same model mud flaps as I had on the 2nd gen, with similar dremel action. And my wheels are the same spec as the previous set, but on 265/70 currently. I’ve also got a semi mild CMC already. Should be adequate for 285/70 or 255/80. I will likely have to cut off the red boxed area on the flaps if I go to the 33ish range tire.

@CowboyTaco I think your previous comments where correct based on this thread.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-diff-water-intrusion.729841/

Not sure that I had true water intrusion in the rear diff (after our water crossing) like i thought i might have had. According to this post anyway. It's clearly Milky (like you suggested) and mine was just black. I see what you where talking about after seeing these pics. I changed the fluid anyway just to make sure. Your input has been 100% accurate though. Talk Soon!

Yes Sir! I ran it hose up to and behind the drivers side tail light. Based on those pics and being the front diff. I might pull my front plug just to have a peek and piece of mind too.

It was Cory aka @marinemonkey. Who hit you up? I'm pretty sure Cory is swamped rn with a bunch of work from other people, but I'd hit him up and see if he can get you in one day
Greer is a great option too if you wanna have the peace of mind of taking it to a shop, but they do end up sending a lot of the tacoma work over to Cory anyway lol
This is the guyyy ^^^^ :kona:

A guy I sold some shocks to. Liked the way mine looked, but he lives near the airport and I don’t have time to install them for him. I’ll pass on the recommendation to him.

Thanks again to all that have made their way from all over the place, to come buy my gear. This has really helped us out...I have been trying my best to save the loot and not buy anymore toys... however a new to me/used kayak made its way home this am.

255x80x17 on real 4Runner Pro wheels. Had to cut some plastic front and back of wheel well and heat-gun/2x4 flatten the random protruding shapes of the fender liner. Have alignment with +2.4 caster, stock control arms and 1.5” “lift”. I’ve flexed in every tire orientation possible. No rub. No CMC.

You can zoom in and see the aft fender trimming I did.

Terrible gas mileage with 33” E rated tires is a given

You bastard! Driving around with your SxS hooked up...looking like some fun to be had!
Was seating on a 4 seater next go around, mainly for a longer wheel base and a place for the dog!
