Sorry, they are 245/75...I swore I jumped up a larger size, but just ran out to check.

Gotcha. No worries. I wish they had a slightly more aggressive sidewall but otherwise looks like a great all terrain tire

Here you go. These are the Walmart/pep boys version the tread May be a little bit different than the AT3 but should be the same size. I have black side out. IMG_20210610_092834.jpg

They've been awesome on ice and the best tire (besides a dedicated snow tire) I've ever had in snow. I've been in snow up to the top of the front bumper and it has easily gotten through it.

Really glad this thread got made. I'm getting a SR and wasn't real pleased with tire size. I'm planning on upping the size. Seeing the SR5s with bigger tires gives me an idea of what I'll be looking at. Thanks all for this discussion.

I had fairly new 265/75R16LTs, 10 ply rating, on my '09 before selling it. Had them put on my '20 SR5. They work great. The speedometer is correct, according to the radar speed checks in various towns. Gas mileage is in the neighborhood of 22-23 mpg (haven't calculated it recently).

265/70/16 is an optional size. It is the same overall diameter as stock 245/75/16. just about 3/4" wider. There are no downsides to going to the wider tire except cost. 265/70/16 is not a common size and you find 265/75/16 cheaper, and with a lot more options. Compared to stock, 265/75/16's are about 1" taller and 3/4" wider than what you have. That is the biggest size you can run with zero modifications and virtually no downsides.

They are a little larger diameter and in theory reduce power, but in my experience it isn't enough to notice. The next size up is either 255/85/16, or 285/75/16. You'll probably need to modify the truck to make them fit and there is enough power loss to notice unless you also re-gear.

Thank you for the info on that. I didn’t want to have to mess with anything like that had thought when I bought the truck it would come with 265/75/16’s. I never planned to go any bigger just would swap out for my all terrains of choice.

Thanks for the break down and info. Based on what I’m hearing from everyone 265/75/16’s should work just fine. Since it’s such a modest increase in size I’d hope/imagine any power or mpg loss would be very minimal. It may even make the truck shift a little better

Oh, something to think about (I haven't checked the specs to verify), bigger means heavier and gas mileage will drop.

Toyota gets around this by using the Kevlar AT tires (bigger, but lighter materials).

When stock, I could get 24 mpg if trying. Now that I got tires that are almost twice as heavy, I'm looking at 19 mpg if trying.

If you go with the LT 10 ply tires you are going to add some additional weight. that definitely will hit the power and fuel economy more than a standard load tire.

While tire size might be a factor, it is not likely a large factor compared to others. Tire compound, tire tread pattern, rubber thickness (top and side) all affect rolling resistance and thus fuel economy. Kinetic energy is lost to heat produced when the tire flexes as it rolls. An M/T tire will likely have more rolling resistance than a A/S tire of the same size and weight; albeit it might be impossible to find such a pair of tires. The rotational inertia effects that people frequently mention on the forum are not really a factor because they are small and the energy is only lost when braking.

EDIT: it would be super cool if tire manufactures published rolling resistance specs for their tires (car, motorcycle, and bicycle tires).

265/75/16 are indeed the sweet spot. No major issues or mods needed, look good on a level truck and lots to choose from.

265/70/R17 on my sport. Or 265/75/R16 on the off road. One size up for me. Stock sport wheels, OEM Mud Flaps and front air dam. No rub at all. Toyo AT3’s. SR & SR5’s will be able to accommodate the same size as the Sport & OR. Huge difference from the stock Firestone Destination LE2’s highway tire.

However, If you went to a aftermarket wheel with a negative offset, greater than -10 you might find the tires will rub a bit.

Nope. No prob to make that switch for the SR5. That’s the stock size for the TRD OR and PRO.
