I'm getting ready to do my 15,000 mile oil change and would like to use the opportunity to do a few simple mods.

    1. F133 Fumoto Quick Oil Drain Valve
    2. Oil Filter Sandwich Adapter (still looking for the exact model looks best..) so I can eventually measure oil temp and pressure
    3. I was reading something about a modification to the oil filter housing?? I was reading about the Baxter adapter but I'm not really sure what the advantage is. Can someone perhaps shed some light on this? The original oil filter seemed just fine..

Anything else I ought to do while I'm down there?

If you take your truck off-road I wouldn’t do the valve.

I've never understood the valve. I mean you have to get down there to open it, so I just always bring a 14mm socket and use the plug. I've bought them for other people but it's peace of mind knowing I have a plug.

if the skid covers it enough it should be fine. I seen a few ripped off on other trucks though that needed the oil pan replaced.

You can get oil temp with an obd reader app. I use obdfusion. I've also never heard of a sandwich adapter that didn't leak.

While you're in there, get the metal filter housing. It's a Toyota part, not after market, but not specifically for the Tacoma. A search will get you the part number.

I run the fumoto and did so on my 4runner and 2nd gen (7 years of use between the two) with no issues. Makes the oil change experience more enjoyable. If you get the short valve it is recessed behind the skid by a decent amount so I don't see how it would be an issue. I Ran RCI skids on my 4 runner and no issues there either.

Don't use that link. It's been awhile but I think the thread pitch is 1.25 not the 1.5 I linked.

Supposedly that's process data as there's no true oil temp sensor anywhere in the system

The baxter adapter is meh. I am fine with just using the stock stuff, never had a problem.

If it's above the skid plate should be fine. If you bash the valve off road with a skid plate on there, you've got a lot more issues than just your drain plug.

Easier control - can stick a hose on there and then open the valve, no oil spray. Some people don't do a lot of oil changes so the few that they DO end up doing DIY, end up being a mess.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ OBD reader for sure. Also allows you to reprogram TPMS serials as/if needed. The metal filter housing is meh too - I would definitely have a second in the garage as a backup, but doesn't need to be the metal one.

Long of the short - don't overcomplicate something you only do every 10k/6 months. The drains are good, but beyond that, meh. It's just an oil change.

As far and the Fumoto valve goes, I had one on my previous vehicle (Jeep Liberty CRD) for over 10 years and not a single issue. I even took it off road. the valve was well above the skid plate on it and I used the original style without an nipple. With that vehicle it had an aluminum oil pan with easy to damage treads so it was worth having.
On the tacoma the oil pan is not like that. It does make the oil change a little easier I would be sure its above a skid plate.

I'm still in the fence about putting one on my truck
