I plan on getting a wireless Carplay Dongle, but I will pop out the USB an move it to the glove box because I HATE WIRESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I think there was even someone that ended up routing power to the center stack too and getting that back to working just for power. One that I need to get done too. Probably will aim to get it done before my PA/KY trip in October. I've also considered just dropping in a new head unit that has wireless native, AND sounds a lot better.

Anyway - the wireless setup is great.

Hmm. You make a good point. And I might look at that too, and could keep the ports in the center console stock instead. Since I'm running wireless anyway it doesn't really matter

PS - Every so often those wireless connection things bug out. The options are to unplug it and plug it back in, but you can also hold down your volume knob for a few seconds and that resets the thing. Does the same task - usually does the trick for me. For what it is, I won't complain that I have to do that time to time. I haven't checked if there's a better software update either. And every so often it just doesn't connect to the truck either. It's weird - it might have to do with how short my trips are/my phone(s) are shitty old ones with not much memory/ram either.

Could also adopt what I used to do - I had an ollllld android phone (I think Galaxy S5?) I set it to airplane mode + wifi. I had an offline sat nav app and spotify off line, anyway, it basically acted as a sat nav and music source, and would update when I pulled into the driveway every night. Could lodge that in the glove box with the cable and then leave it there too. That was with my old Mazda though. Now I'm in the 21st century with a screen and everything. Fancy.

Where the other end connect to of the extension?

 

One end is in the USB port under the climate controls. That will be tucked away behind the climate controls and routed to the glove box where the wireless CarPlay adapter will be. No need to tear the dash apart or the console. Easy peasy

 

Is this the end that is in the picture?

I'm guessing that there's no USB or anything in the glove box.

Is there any way to completely hide the USB cable?

 

Yes like I said I’m going to push the USB port in and put a switch blank back in. So it will look factory and reroute it all to the glove box. So there will be zero wires showing

PS forgot to warn you - the wireless CarPlay adapter does really sap the phone battery. It’s fine to and from work but a longer trip you’ll want to power the phone somehow. Whether it’s the wireless mat or a cable somehow.
