wheelers replacement leafs

I was looking into replacing my stock tacoma leafs, with the wheelers HD replacement 5 pack leafs. I have read that some guys are getting a sqeaking from these leafs. Is this the case in all of wheelers replacement leafs or just an isilated incident?

 

I plan on getting the same leaf springs when I do my lift... you can also opt for greaseable bushings for your leaf springs, which will help alleviate any squeaking you may get from the springs themselves...

That being said, I doubt it's the bushings that are squeaking... and it may very well be that the owners of the trucks that have the leafs installed aren't accurate in saying that their new wheelers leafs are squeaking, there's alot of things under the truck that could be squeaking.

 

I replaced my leaf spring with greasable fitting and they still squeaked. I can't remember what brand they were but, they weren't wheelers springs. I'm planning on seperating the springs later and spray some rubber in between to stop the squeaking. Someone on here tried it and it worked.

 

I dont think its coming from the bushings. I think its coming from the bolt style clamps that hold the leafs inline. The clamps are realy close to the leafs. As the leaf flexes thay go up & down, it looks like it would rub. Any thoughts?

 

Its the tips of the leafs that squeak, especially when they've gotten muddy. Some brands of leafs actually put graphite pads in between the leafs, right at the tips. And some brands have greaseable, nylon pads there too.

I have the wheelers 5 leafs and like them. No squeks. I thinks you will need new shocks as well. Look at bilstein 5100 from down south motor sports. I love my 5 leaf pack from wheelers. Been on my truck for over a year and it gets it's use, let me tell ya. I also have a 2"AAL from fagtech on it too. These are excellent leafs, and no squeaks.

No Iam not going to do the install myself do to bad back and a shattered ankle, cannt do that kind of stuff anymore. ( It sucks when your all f*&^cked up ) I forgot to ask, how much lift did you get and how stiff is the ride with the 5 leaf pack?

 

^ the 5 leaf pack provides about 1.5'' of lift on an unloaded tacoma.

I have the 5 pack, it is fine if you do not haul anything in the bed of your truck. I put 3/4 of a ton of pellets next to the cab, it was nearly on the ground! I took about 10 bags and stuffed them in the cab for good measure, didnt want to chance deforming the springs.

Mine dont squeak at all.

Because it was overloaded really doesn't justify claiming "fine if you do not haul anything in the bed of your truck"

FWIW When I was researching putting the 5 leaf packs on my truck I asked Wheelers what it would do to increase load carrying capacity, this was their reply:
"They have about 400 pounds of additional load capacity."

Yea, I was referring to MT girl about the squeaky leaf springs.. LOL I just wont to thank everyone how posted their personal experiences with the 5 pack leafs from wheelers. I now know that thay are the ones Iam going with!!

 

To MT Girl, Thats cool. Iam the same way, I dont like squeaks leaks and rattles myself... I will yet you all know how it turns out .. I have to order the leafs and set up the install , may be A few weeks . But I will definitely let everyone know. Thanks again to everyone how replyed.

I'm looking into upgrading my suspension from stock (on a 98 4cyl Prerunner) to 5100's all around with wheelers' leaf packs in the rear, as well as some new coils since mine have yet to be replaced since the truck was manufactured. I'd like to get a small lift to give me some additional ground clearance when off-roading but I don't by any means do anything hardcore nor do I haul any particularly heavy loads. With that said, what would your recommendations be?

I was considering getting the 5 leaf pack with 5100's set at .85 or should I keep them at 0 and get the OME 880's. I'm going to replace the coils either way and see many people running the OME + 5100 setup but I'm open to other coils paired with the Bilsteins. I don't mind a small rake with the tail up, but I'd rather keep it level. Oh, and I have a leer shell on it which I figure adds somewhere between 150-200lbs.
