I’d say a visit to the Ghost Trains. A spare tire is a must but if you’re running C rated or E rated tires you shouldn’t have any major issues.

Controversial I know, but you can drive the main logging rules, generally, in P-rated, but if you want to be able to travel 35-45 you really need to have good tires. Also, prepare for flats, there are a lot of metal chunks on roads that love tires. My record is 2 flats in a day (with E-Rated). More so than a good spare, is a plug kit and a compressor or CO2 tank. Each flat I have gotten was the result of metal shards in the tire. They were easily plugged and I never dropped my spare. I have seen cars, minivans, and crossover SUVs on the roads and yes, they get flats, but it is reasonably doable. The US Dept of Interior run stock Ford Escapes and there is a group of Canadians that drive a Kia Sportage.

The biggest issue I've seen was when a group member broke a brake line and had to drive back to Presque Isle without brakes from St. Pamphile during a winter storm.

Thank you for the tips!

I should be able to hit Clayton Lake and the Ghost Trains this weekend. The map is excellent. Fortunately I have the full suite of spare, air compressor, deflator, and patch kit. What I don't trust are the stock Goodyear Wrangler (LT) shoes my Tacoma is wearing. Guess there's only one way to find out.

Should be fine. Goes without saying that there is zero cell service up there. So make sure you have a means of navigating. Hard copies of a map (Delorme Gazetteer of Maine is the best bet).

Have fun. There is also a nice little museum at Churchill Dam that does a good job of describing the history of the area.

Just like everyone else said you should be good, just have a spare in case of a sidewall puncture. I'm in Fort Kent now and Irving uses 2 wheel drive f-150s all year round. If you don't have a garmin a good app to check out it Guru Maps Pro. You can download each state and use it without reception. It's not the best, but it gives you idea of where you are and has most of the roads on it that you will need incase you get turned around. I use it in the winter for snowmobiling.

I saw a 4R with a failed upper ball joint on 114 in Gorham yesterday. He said they were Icons and they looked like Icons. Felt bad for the guy, he said it broke when he tried to turn left. He didn't know if it was a DJ or a BJ, which is what I would love to know. Scary stuff.

I saw MANY Tacomas up in the North Maine Woods this past weekend while we were exploring. If you saw a couple in a silver 20 DCSB TRD Off Road wave it you, it was likely us. We ended up camping in the "Ghetto" St' John Bridge campsite. My God, I love it up there!

Well shoot, I must have missed you! I was around the Ghost Trains and Churchill Dam as recommended by this thread. Pictures to follow once I find the time.

I shared a campground in Acadia with a beautiful cement OR DCSB almost identical to mine last week. The younger driver didn't seem nearly as enthusiastic about finding a twin tacoma as I was :anonymous:
