Hello friends hopefully this is a valid question, I haven't found solid info yet regarding the 2nd gen.

I have a double cab 4x4. Would a frame from a double cab prerunner fit with my 4x4? Obviously making sure they both have the same bed size.

I am doing a DIY frame swap because Toyota gave me the finger and I am too stubborn to let my truck die.

Much appreciated. I will document the process and let you guys know how to do it.

Its slightly different because of the lack of transfer case I believe.

Since people convert their PreRunners to 4x4, it can’t be that different. Even if there is something extra needed for the transfer case, it would be something to add, not remove, so just a small amount of fabrication and welding there. @jawmes just did the conversion recently, he’ll likely know.

Dimensions wise the frames are the same unless you're getting a double cab long bed which I assume the frame is longer. Only difference is transmission crossmember. I did a 4x4 conversion on my Prerunner and the only thing I had to fab was that crossmember. Everything else bolts right up.

The tabs on the frame to mount the transmission cross member hang lower on the 4x4 frame than they do on the prerunner. I think they are shifted slightly front-to-back as well. This is why everyone that does a 4wd conversion has to make a custom transmission cross member to account for these differences.

Do you guys know if the frame stayed the same from 2008 to 2012? The best frame I could find is from a 2012 prerunner. Same cab same box size. Other than the transmission crossmember would this be compatible?

I would assume it's the same. Only thing that really changed was the front end.

What kind of fab work did you do, do you happen to have some pictures of before and after fab?
I’m trying to find a frame for my 2008 4x4 crew cab 6ft bed and I’m only finding Prerunner frames
