Not sure of the weight of the rack/RTT or the capacity of the winch, but you may not need to have a dual line setup. It's nice to have the extra capacity if you would like to do more. If I were doing the dual line setup, I would have an extra eye mounted at each pulley in the ceiling (see kindergarten sketch for clarity). It involves a lot more cable and hardware, but it will double the allowable load.

OEM replacement blade strips (fits original wiper) or OEM "sightline" wiper blades from what I've read. I need to replace mine as well.

I think after your junction you would want a single line, you can use a horizontal pulley anywhere the line needs to turn. You can then place additional pulleys in any section of straight line to add mechanical advantage

I was watching an install video on YouTube for the installation of the Bakflip MX4 (I think by Back Country), and the installer repeated that when you remove any of the star screws (I believe they’re size T15), to break the screw and loosen by hand first on all the screws, including the ones for the bed rails. After that, you can use a screw gun or impact gun to remove them or reinstall them again. But make sure you do the same with tightening the screws. When you get close to putting them back in, just make them a little snug and then finish tightening by hand or you’ll run the risk of stripping the screws.

The dual line was only up to the junction and I thought would help keep tension on the cable especially around the 90 degree pulley. In my head it seemed as if a single line would slip off, I don’t know. The hoist I was looking at is 440 dual line and 220 single. The cap is 180-200 lbs but I think the extra buffer of 440 would be better rather being close to the edge at 220.

I see the extra pulley added to each corner in your pic and that definitely is a possibility but I may not have enough distance needed for the extra length. My truck bed rails are 4’4” off the ground and I have enough clearance to raise it 3’ off the bed rails.

I think I’ll have to get everything together and play it by ear

I’m not sure I follow, could you post a rudimentary sketch?

so I didn’t really go into detail on the platform used but it’s just basically 2 boards that will go side to side (1 in front and 1 in rear) of the cap with 4 inch extending past the cap sides with eye bolt which gives 4 lifting points. In my head I wanted more of a stable load with less wobble if that makes sense. I do have a 4’ light directly above where the cap will be centered so that was another reason for not having a single center line above the cap. Light can be removed if needed for install and if not required to move will like replace/relocate in the future

That's the model I have. Last year's bad winter storm I used it to jump my neighbors dead battery. Fired right up. I never leave home without it...topped it off last night in preparation for my upcoming trip.

    Definitely.

There are infinite ways to do this. We are a bunch weekend engineers trying to help but we don't know all the possibilities/limitations you have. You will probably put up some hardware up, stare at it, drink a beer, and then figure out a better mousetrap. These types of projects are always the most fun for me because I always learn something new to put in the old bag of tricks. I love when knowledge becomes wisdom.

Let us know how it turns out.

All this talk about jump starters has got me wondering. My original OEM battery is just over 2 years old? How do these usually last? I've read they're not the best quality and tend to die early. When I bought the truck the salesman casually mentioned that if the battery dies prematurely they will send out a tow truck on their nickel. Not exactly confidence inspiring. Wondering if I should replace the battery now or invest in a jump starter for a warm fuzzy feeling.

How long they last varies. I wouldn't replace it until you notice it going down. You have another year on your bumper to bumper warranty. I had one of my Tacoma batteries replaced under warranty. The jump starter is always a good idea though.

My first one (24F) died at 28 months. Second one (27F) is still going strong.

Picked up a power pack jump-starter and have yet to need it. Tested it on a F-250 (died at the gas station) and it worked great.

The only time I broke down in my 1997 Tacoma was due to the Toyota battery. The only time my wife’s 2010 Rav4 left her stranded was due to the Toyota battery. Replaced it with an Autozone AGM battery and it’s still going, (gave it to my daughter). The three times my wife’s 2015 Rav4 broke down was due to the Toyota battery. Warranty covered it twice, but not the 3rd time. Replaced it with the AutoZone AGM battery. Everyone’s experiences are different, but I have zero confidence in the OEM battery and keep a Noco in my 2020 Tacoma. I have also began a routine of trickle charging the Tacoma once each weekend, as an extra step.

I had Toyota replace the OEM battery at aaprox. 2 years. Then 1 year later I was having issues with it again. They did a deep charge cycle on it and said it was ok. I had no confidence in it after that so I replaced it with a MotorMaster Eliminator. The truck actually turns over faster and I'm confident now I can run accessories for a few hours without worrying that it will kill the battery.
