As stated. Has anyone had this happen?

And if so, is there any great way to disassemble the pad and replace or remove it? Thanks in advance!

@tonered Earlier this year you mentioned there was a TSB on this issue. You probably know a lot more than me

Happening on my 2020 too. Personally I’m just gonna deal with it as bringing it to the dealer will most likely introduce squeaks and noises which will bother me more

I think it’s a pretty common issue. I took mine apart about a year ago and gorilla glued the pad down. Has been flat ever since and still works fine. From the factory the rubber isn’t attached to the charger pad so the heat causes the rubber to warp.

    Enough for now
Qi charger is trash anyways, way to slow and over heats easily. I want to see more mods of people taking it out or replacing it with something more useful.

Thanks everyone! I’ll have to see if I can locate that TSB to see if it has any instructions on actually disassembling the darn thing. I haven’t used it even once because it would never work correctly to charge a modern smartphone. And now I’m using a Kyocera DuraXV Extreme anyway (no QI) so I couldn’t care less if it was just ripped out and replaced with something flat.

Glad to know I’m not alone!

Would be nice! If it wasn’t almost 6 years old with 83K miles, haha. :)

I was just about to say I found it! But it doesn’t really cover how to actually do the disassembly portion.

    upload_2021-10-4_11-47-40.jpg

Would be nice if it simply covered where to get that. Is there a full Repair Manual posted around here or is that something only attainable via Toyota? Really just want to remove it and see if it can be re-glued or just replace it if it’s cheap (seems to be under $50). Would make a nice weekend project sometime.

That and figuring out how to replace the tailgate dampener after it’s broken 3 times and bent so bad I need a new part. Too bad it’s an October 2015 build and isn’t even the same part as later 2016 models, sigh. Early build probs.

    not enough.
Yeah. agreed. Qi is useless. The only time I use a pad charger is overnight when I'm at home and the phone isn't doing anything for 8 hours so it can slowly charge. That's about it.

idk. the nook is really nice as it is with just the qi charger not being used. The other thing about the charger is that you have to put the phone down in the middle...and can't really put anything else in there.
Maybe replacing the whole thing with two usb ports? a deeper nook so that things that I place in there sometimes don't go flying when I take a turn? I haven't really thought about puttin gsomething else entirely in there...

A removable rubber pad that doesn’t swell up? Haha. I already have those non skid things in all my cup holders and in the cubby as seen (pic #2), I wouldn’t even care if it was just plastic so we can easily put a pad like I have in there. Much easier to clean anyway as it’s removable.

Or just a working modern QI pad, maybe even with MagSafe compatibility, that’d be neat for iPhone 12 and up users. But it’s backwards compatible with QI anyway and can charge at 10 Watts I think. Whatever the stock one is, sucks beyond belief. It might charge at 5W for something like an iPhone 8 with a tiny sub 2K mAh battery. But pretty useless for larger modern devices and their power draw.

I’ve been tossing around the idea of mounting an iPad mini there for maps, I’ll likely end up cutting the plastic to make it fit and to run continuous power to it. I rarely use those cup holders (cause we have like 13 in our trucks lol) so I’m not opposed to modifying those too.

A burrito holder! Or nacho cheese dip holder.
Something that has some depth in there to throw things in without them flying around.

I had my done under warranty. For $740 I’d live with it.
