    Interesting update.

Turns out the fuel injectors went out, AGAIN. This is the second time in under 50k miles. Except the dealer just told me that fuel injectors are a 3yr 36k mile part, and I’m at 48k miles. They’re trying to get it approved through toyota corp. since I’ve been back n forth with multiple idling/misfire issues for some time now. Hopefully it gets approved.. just odd to have fuel injectors fail twice in under 50k miles.

That’s bizzare, is the fuel quality ok where you’re at ?

also injectors may be covered under emissions warranty

All of them? Be interesting to see what the failure actually was.

Carvana time. Time to trade it and not look back. Sometimes even Toyota makes lemons, if it's giving you this many issues I wouldn't look back.

Yeah, I got a quote for $31k.. not even sure if that’s high or low but I’m fine with it. It’s got a few dents from wheeling it so I’m fine with the price. Im more interesting in just getting rid of it.

Yeah that’s another reason I want to get rid of it, the truck gets pissy when I’m on a steep grade so Ive try to avoid steep inclines which is sad on a vehicle marketed for off roading.

Wait why aren't injectors part of the powertrain that's covered for 5yr/60k? I mean they are part of the engine and kind of hard to get power without fuel...

My parents had a 2011 F150 King Ranch Ecoboost, beautiful truck, super quick and smooth but needed 10k of engine work when it was a year old. They sold it to a simalar service after getting tired of the BS it put them thru. Shit happens, all brands have lemons.

Beats me. My best guess is that they see it similar to spark plugs, brakes, tires, etc. But I do agree that it should be part of the 5yr/60k given that 50k is too soon for them to fail. Especially twice.

Agreed! They’re not all bad, but some definitely come out of they assembly line worse than others. Perfect example is my dads 2008 F150. That 5.4 is supposed to be on the list of fords most unreliable engines and that things still running like new. Just happens.

My 4.2 v6 01 f150, which I beat the piss out of on the farm is still running like new @350k. Manufacturing can be weird.

That’s awesome! Prime examples of why I’m not a huge fan of purchasing solely based on “reliability.” There’s good and bad apples in any brand.

Not dodge rams!! They’re all super reliable - especially the 6.7 with the DEF system. Yeah right!!! Total POS!!!

I would be shocked if the fuel injectors are not covered by the power train warranty.

Also, if they are electronic, they could be covered by the federal emissions warranty that goes out even further. But I think in that case they have to be responsible for an emissions test failure.

My friends 2015 6.7 is currently on its way to 700k miles. He hauls 5th wheels for a living. Every brand has its good and bad days.

Not sure how the newer ones are, but my Mom's BF has a '97 5.9 with ~800k last I heard, and a newer one with 400+K. I'm sure there's bad ones, too. But, those Cummins diesels are about as bulletproof as it gets!

Agree, sometimes you get a Wednesday engine and sometimes a Friday afternoon one.

Your friend makes his living with the truck, I bet he maintains it with that in mind. Poor maintenance can spoil a great designed engine, good maintenance can prolong the life of a not so great design.

I’ve got an 01 with a 5.9 24v and it runs like there’s no tomorrow- just loud AF. My poor neighbor is being run through the ringer with his 2016. Truck and motor are great but the DEF system is an absolute nightmare. Dealer said DEF pump was bad but recommended replacing the whole system. So far we’ve replaced injector, pump ($1100 alone), and module. Still has CEL and dreaded 150 miles before limp mode message. sorry wasn’t meant to be a thread jack.
    I’m done ranting.

It's not an issue. Been doing it for years. I rebuild wrecked Toyota trucks. I always insist that the truck is towed rear forward.

I used to work for Auto club and yes you can request a flat bed . The only issue is you may have to wait longer , maybe up to 45 minutes or more depending on how busy that ICS is
