Typically there will be a Black Friday sale price coming in as well. You may be looking at a model for Push button which would be higher, verify you are looking at the correct model for your truck

So with this considered the 4th button is not functional unless your in a car with that feature? Not to be overly critical but for the money that they are asking, It seems to me that they would offer an exact need FOB.

You may know or remember a few weeks back that a few of us upgraded our OEM keys and fobs to the flip-style. Can they be programmed to be used with these remote start systems?

Some years back I added a locking tailgate actuator to what was then a new 2003 Ford F-350 duly. I don't know if it is relevant but it was a King Ranch edition. As I remember it functioned the same as well but only unlocked with the 2nd press of the unlock button on the FOB with the passenger and rear doors. Same?

I'm not sure where you're seeing that $540 but they're both essentially the same price. The only difference being that accessorides gives you the option of the less expensive 1-way remote whereas 12vsolutions comes standard with a 2-way remote. 2-way means you'll press start on the fob, and the fob will confirm when the truck has started. 1-way means you press start and just hope the truck started.

One of the features I love most, confirms if you’ve locked, unlocked, started or shut off. :)

Yes, i have the 2way remote so that it confirms the truck started and stopped running with a 1/4 mile range. Yes you can use the OEM fobs to start it but for more detail that you are wanting, i would call them and ask your questions or maybe they will chime in @Accessorides

Well, I don't either at this point. I went back to their site where I was sure I saw $549 +/- and didn't see it. That's what I get for multi multi-tasking I guess. I have to run but I'm sure you have it right and I have crapped it up. I check back in this evening. So thanks for the info.

Newer ones are using T- Harness so they are plug n play with no splicing. Makes a world of difference. Going to see if i have any pics of my kit and harness to post

I keep seeing G Key compatibility, as I understand it my truck is one of the few that does not have a chipped key. It is one with the dealer added security etc. Does this make a difference? Or was it just an effort to identify truck compatibility? Someone a while back one of our members told me what the system in my truck was called but I would have to look back to see. One I make not of what it was called I'll call for compatibility.

The G key means it is not chipped and doesn’t have the engine disable transponder next to the ignition. It will be easier to install as you don’t have to worry about the transponder and more than likely the kit is a little cheaper. If you want to see an install vid. Look up the 12volt version on you tube for you truck and they have a good vid showing how the install is done. I followed that vid along with T he instruction from mine to have a good visual of what needs to be done.

The G keys are chipped as well, the non chipped keys have no markings.
The difference between the dot and the G keys is the type of immobilizer transponder they use, on vehicles with no immobilizer it shouldn't matter as that part of the remote start won't be needed.

Thanks for the clarification @Dm93 I stand corrected. I have a DOT key which is chipped so the G may be for a newer model.

OP. If you can then, they will direct you to the correct model. I don’t think you can go wrong with either version it’s just the fine details that may help you lean one way or the other.

Has anyone successfully added remote start without the G key? I have a 2014 that I would absolutely love to be able to install remote start on (no garage and live in Winter Park, CO!)

I searched Accessorides, and they only show a G key system. Also looked at 12volt, and they advertise that it is G key only, but then the requirements say it can be a different key.

Yes, I installed a full Clifford (DEI) 2-way alarm/remote start system in my chipped 2009 way back in 2010 or so. Still works perfectly. But the install is not for the faint of heart. Lots of cutting and soldering to include working with the ECU wires to the sensor (to connect a bypass module) in the steering column and the big 12v start, ignition, and accessory wires. It's been a long time so I don't recall a lot, except that it was pretty difficult. Doable, but difficult. I had a detailed writeup for the install in a thread here... or maybe at Toyota Nation. I'll look for it and post a link if I can.

If I had it to do over again, I'd try to find a plug and play... if they make those for the chipped Tacomas. They would need to accomplish the chip bypass function somehow.

Edit: here is my old thread on this install from 2009. Damn, time flies.

I have always wanted remote start but was turned off by the amount of work it takes to install. Messing with factory wiring gives me nightmares. Did not realize plug and play was a thing though!! I might need to do this

I went with a deal like this. https://slickdeals.net/f/16180147-best-buy-dotd-compustar-2-way-csx-remote-start-system-lte-module-black-csx4905s-kit-free-installation-299-99-fs-or-189-99-with-total-tech-membership

For $300 installed, you get a remote start option. I decided to pay for the Drone subscription, so I can start the truck further out than 1/4. Example. I like to snowboard, and when I know I'm done for the day and going to do my last run, I'll start my vehicle from the back side of the mountain. 10-20min later I'm at my toasty warm truck.

It does take some time. I did mine with a compustar t9/7900as kit, cm900 unit with blade al to bypass immobilizer.

It wasnt inherently difficult as ive installed many alarms before but the tacoma is a bit more special. You have to use the aux outputs to put power to both ignition and both starter wires in order for ac and aux power to work when you remote start. Otherwise you will only have a truck that started and not with the hcav/interior power on. It really may not be for the faint of heart as also have to program the unit afterwards after completing the wiring.

It really is amazing that it takes all that just to start a truck remotely! Crazy...

Can the 12v remotes also lock and unlock your doors? The picture on their website only shows one start button on the front??

The Accessorides fobs have more options... but do those options work to unlock/lock doors?

Outstanding deal, but expired long ago as with the age of these posts. Does anyone know if this or a more current or comparable model of this unit is on sale this good?
