    Hello,

seems like my front drivers cv axel has some play in it. I've been looking at many different threads about replacing the needle bearing and I think its something I can do. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-differential-side-bearing-replacement-done.130558/page-2
But I cannot for the life of me find the replacement part. Needle Roller Bearing - 90364-35010
This one only fits 2005s and newer. If anyone has done this before or seen anyone else I would really appreciate the help. For context I have a 2001 TRD ext. cab. Let me know if I can clarify anything too.

There is supposed to be minor play where the cv axle connects to the diff. But if you really want to replace it I would recommend replacing it with an EGCS bushing. They sell the tool to replace the bearing and the seal in the diff. Maybe record a video showing how much play you have

There is more play compared to the passenger, also I forgot to mention it is leaking gear oil pretty bad so I will need to replace the seal too. I haven't found an EGCS bushing that fits the first gens either. Its also $100+ for the bushing and tool kit compared to ~$20 for the bearing. But I guess is the bearing is just bad design it makes sense to replace it with the bushing. Here's the video. also not how much oil is on the diff https://imgur.com/a/yD9kpvB

Other than the seal- these would be the only bearings I can see from the diagrams:

    90368-50006 / 41311A (Differential Carrier Bearing)

41311B looks to be a shim of some sort. The reference number has more than 25 different part numbers associated with it: 90564-50092 - 90564-50118...

So not the needle bearing? and isnt the differential carrier bearing for the differential and not the CV axel? everything Ive researched so far has pointed me to the needle bearing.

That thread you referenced was for 2nd gen trucks. They don't overlap many (if any) parts.

I couldn't tell you for sure that it is or isn't the bearing in that diagram- but the diagram doesn't have another bearing there.

I'd pop the CV axle out and just do a visual on everything. Are you running OEM axles or aftermarket/parts store replacements? If it's a parts store axle, and it has a warranty it couldn't hurt to just get a new one.

The bearing in question, the one that gets replaced by the ECGS bushing is shown in the diagram. From your text "Other than the seal", follow the line directly under "Other than".

    Here. https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-1...amshell-bushingeliminates-needle-bearing.html

There are plenty of threads on this. you can buy all the tools to replace it too. I bought all the tools and the seal and it worked great, very easy to do. Didn't eliminate my vibration due to it being my driveshaft but there was ZERO play after this. Yes it does cost more but eliminates the needle bearing "design flaw".

Also, there's a loaner ECGS needle bearing removal tool floating around here that can be yours for the cost of shipping I believe.

Yup. I have the remover & now the installer as well, which was donated by @jmferg
You just pay shipping to & fro. Wish they got more use. There's a link on here. Not sure what else to do to get the word out.

Your in luck. Happened to catch me posting a question
Probably the best way to do it is one of those priority/one price covers anywhere things. I am not up on the costs though. They are small tools, so my guess is 10.00 or so. So that'd be 20.00 or so.

Ok well I'm not sure when ill have time to do the swap, so feel free to give it to someone else. Any chance you know the outside diameter of the tool? been thinking of just making one.

    Or maybe it was a 5…. Hmmmm….
5 1/2 cm. I think it’s on the ECGS site, if you wanna double check, because there are two sizes. One for us & the other for 2nd & 3rd gen.

How did you determine the vibration is from the driveshaft? I too am in this situation with CV really loose in the front diff and I’ve already ordered the ECGS bushing . Goes away in 4H though . So there’s that. @Taco01863 is going to help and Tacobell007 is there to help if needed.
