If you want to start from a blank slate, then there are the DTC, Learned Value, and AT Resets in TechStream.

In all honesty, seeing the faces and hearing the words first hand, OVT / vF fixes the engine and transmission.

If you are ECU ID 04B80, then yes, the new TSB will get you to 04B81. It will have some benefit, but nothing jaw dropping.

True, but starting from a blank slate was a big change for me. Several items changed for the better on mine. Weird since I drove my Taco with just a few miles on the odo, but it also makes sense considering the various folks that would have driven it very short distances.

Probably a “no go” at my dealership since the tsb indicates Canada market

There is going to be a US version that will be identical. My main focus is flashing at home since most dealers seem to struggle with these anyway.

Your truck sounds like mine before i piled 1500 miles on it. Seemed like it had no power, and the transmission constantly hunted. I kept driving it the same as i did with my 4.7 tundra. Seemed almost overnight it began to have more power with less transmission hunting. Right now i'm still trying 93 octane fuel as others have said these engines run better on premium fuel. So far not seeing it...truck still runs worse, and the transmission hunts more, not to mention poorer mpg. Going back to 87 octane where it ran great.

I had the TSB installed on my 30K mile 20 Sport yesterday and there was a slight improvement with shifting. It was not an “Oh wow” experience.

I have a 2017 Tacoma and there are so many threads regarding the tranny/ecu tsb. What is the latest tsb today that I need to present to the dealer? I have 75k on the odo. I’ve never done this update before. I live in San Diego and closest dealer is Kearny Mesa.

    Thanks!!

Where did you see this? I vaguely remember perusing through some of the gas threads, but I don’t recall anyone coming out and saying the engine runs better on premium. Some have claimed slightly better MPGs

I believe this is the latest. I have a 17 that had shifting issues and this is the one that remedied my issue.

Kearny Mesa in San Diego tried to charge me $163 for the TSBs claiming it’s only covered free of charge up to the transmission warranty of 60k while the tsb clearly states covered up to 80k (I have 75k). I didn’t feel like arguing with the stealership and left. Dealerships are a bunch of shady thieves.

I’ll stick with the ECT button on full time and save $163.

That sucks. I'd hit another dealership as it really does make a big improvement overall.
