Well, like almost every 2nd gen I have ever seen or heard of, my sun visors are completely shot. I have opened them up for a peek and I feel pretty sure after seeing a few how-to vids I could get the repair done. But I would like to know what my options are etc...

Is anyone offering a quality built replacement that has proven to be reliable? I don't mind spending the necessary money to get there. But would rather not end up with a remake or copy of an already poor design.

Thanks, for any help you might offer, Happy Thanksgiving everyone.;)

Hey thanks, I know what you are saying is true. Even Amazon has a few vendors to choose from that offer their visor version. But are they all the same? Are they remakes of the poorly designed OEMs? What I am reaching for, is someone offering a redesign that resolves the issues inherent with the original offerings.
    Thanks for reaching out.

Look for the parts shops selling parts. I picked up some 3rd gen visors for $40 each. pulled from a wrecked truck.

If your looking for better remakes I don't think those exist. Try looking for a later 2nd gen if they fit. I had no issues with mine. could have improved from the early years.

Salvage yards makes sense if you knew exactly what you were looking for, i.e. improved design year, etc... Do you have a 3rd gen or are you saying that they are compatible with 2nd?

It would be nice to have hard information regarding as you say the possibility of an improved design in later offerings. Or info leading to a proven performer in aftermarket production etc... Thanks again

Im not positive of later 2nd gen but many parts were improved from what I have seen from earlier to later. The 3rd gen will bolt up but you have to make a new connection as the connections are different. I had picked them up as part of a project to convert the interior to black. Are the later 2nd gen better honestly not sure but id just search 2012 - 2015 Tacomas. mayse someone has an idea but i wouldn't expect the aftermarket to be big on visors let alone better than the OEM ones

What’s wrong with the oem ones, mine are going on 10 years and no issues. Women probably wear them out checking their makeup but I just squint or wear sunglasses. I use mine to hold the garage door opener.

On my nearly 15yr old truck the drivers side started drooping a bit and making a popping sound every time I would put it down and up

I ordered a new one from Toyota a couple of days ago - about $98 with tax and free shipping to me

Had to chuckle at this comment.

My truck is new (bought in May this year) and the driver's side is still pretty stiff.

I also use it for my garage door opener.

It's good that the flip down slides to extend.

I've used the Amazon replacements and they are identical in every way to OEM. Pretty nice for the price.

I went back and forth between OEM and aftermarket. I chose OEM. In comparing the OEM to the stock OEM visor, I noticed the new OEM visor wasn't as bulky, and was a bit more well made in my opinion. As a previous poster mentioned, I also feel Toyota improves on OEM parts as time passes. I've had the new visor in place for about five years now, and it still springs back in place instantly. No complaints so far.

I replaced my passenger visor with an Amazon visor earlier this year. It literally looks exactly the same as the oem. Function is fine. For the price I could buy 3 before I recouped the cost of an OEM replacement.

I just bought new visors for my 05 yesterday, from McGeorge Toyota. $80/each + shipping.

Yes, I could buy 3 pairs of aftermarket visors for that cost. But the originals held up for over 15 years before starting to fail. I doubt the same lifespan can be achieved from the aftermarket versions... just my $0.02

I'm leaning in this direction for sure, were yours lighted? And frankly, the aftermarket I have seen were not as price-friendly as you indicate here. Ryland or Crash&Burn80 supplied a link in his Ultmont Headlight Upgrade Build thread to a Toyota dealership that has the best prices on OEM I have found even shipped.

The more I hear the more I think I will just bite the bullet and go OEM. Thanks for the input, and unless I miss my guess you probably headed for a nap after all that turkey. LOL

$60/pair was the aftermarket price I had saved on Amazon, but that was a while ago.

    No, mine don't have lights.

Of course one option is to repair it. Because my visors have the illuminated vanity light the replacement is very expensive, much more than the non-illuminated one. I fixed my Driver side visor myself and it's still holding up well. The following is my post and contribution in case you look into repairing it.
