Anyone get rhino grips installed in their 1st gen beds?

Where/how did you hook them up? Bonus points if you've got a shell on the back!

 

Since there are eleventeen or more different types just which style do you have??

Just where do you wish to put them?

Then I am sure we can make some suggestions .

I have a camper shell and want to mount them in my truck bed or in the shell for holding a shovel, axe, fire extinguisher, etc. Possibly similar to the first pic here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-hi-lift-and-tool-mounts.260147/

Didn't your axe fly off from your quick fists?

 

Quick and easy a piece of L iron secured via your cap C clamps running the length of the sides.

You can then install your grippers to The L iron were ever you desire.

 

Yeah the little plastics washers they come with are risky, they can snap easily and then the quickfist slides right off the mount along with whatever it's holding. Use metal washers and not the plastic ones they come with

 

This sounds great, but I'm having trouble picturing it. Don't suppose you've done this and could get a picture of it?

 

Me and pictures do not get along !! I still think of pictures as something you send off to be developed .

Then get back many pictures of your thumb . I just never bothered to take pictures .

So you get an L iron that is really long, running the length of the bed or so? And is it small enough to stay on the inside of the C clamps when the clamps are closed? if that makes sense?

The top line is the shell, the bottom line is the truck bed, as observed from the rear.

 

One of those things you can adjust to work with your dealing with.

Yes in theory If your cap has a lip on the inside you might need a spacer under the angle iron to lift the angle to clear the lip

then you can have the angle point in whatever direction works best up or down.

Install your grippers where they work best if your first location is not ideal you can move them easy.

 

I have a shell and use quick fists to store my Thule bars inside on the passenger side. I cut some 2x4 to fit against the shell with the bottom be resting on the shell rail and with a strap to hold the top of each one that attaches to the roof track screws. The front 2x4 is drilled with short pieces of 1-1/2” abs pipe installed and the quick fists are notched into the rear 2x4. Release the strap, slide one out, snap to the roof mounts, repeat, done.
