It's less Tacoma and more mod
No UTV owner has ever read a sign, and driving one without being at a minimum of 4 beers deep is a huge party foul.

Also did you wipe down your new flywheel with brake clean before installing it all? Sounds like you've got something misadjusted or you installed the friction disc backwards which causes your exact symptoms

    Yes wiped it down.

I pretty certain I didn't put it in backwards. The Disk was nicely labeled. That said, I can hear it when letting it out. Like if I let it out and just ride it it sounds like a broom sweeping(constantly of course). The vibes at idle aren't terrible but they get worse with RPMs and have bad spots a long the rpm range. So something is very much off I think.

Not sure what I could do adjustment wise. Everything got torqued to the right specs. Even bought yet another torque wrench(have 4 now) for it.

Put it in 4wd and see if it goes away.

I think given the people we're talking about, signs like that would just coax them into more bad behavior. :notsure:

@Blackdawg if you resurface the old one look to see what Marlin recommends for the step.

On their site they don't say anything specific that I didn't do. In fact they actually say the disc can be run either way technically. It'll increase wear but will work.

Left my oem one down in powell but hopefully can get it resurfaced when I go back down there.

Hmm, when I did mine last I had it stepped to what they recommended. Not sure where I read that and I can't remember what it was.

    ah thanks.

So really just important to make sure the step on the flywheel is maintained. That makes sense.

Any reason as to why things would be slipping?

The clutch I took out honestly didn't look that old. Wasn't new, but had plenty of life in it. It was slipping pretty badly though in 4th and 5th. Lower gears if I pinned it. The new one is a bit better but in 5th going up hills when I drove it home it still slipped.

    Yep, front diff needle bearing.

My 2nd gen was bad when I got it. Goes away instantly in 4wd. Just something to try.

I went back and read about your slipping issue and the replies. Not much I could add other than it looks like "something" happened considering the slipping is occurring across two clutches.
I know you are familiar with the clutch swap drill but sometimes it's the little things. Maybe verify that it is releasing completely.
Start at the fork/slave cyl. First we must agree that the 1st gen Taco release bearing is in constant contact with the pressure plate (fingers). I say this because there are folks including self professed transmission experts that claim otherwise.

The little spring in the slave cyl (below) is responsible for this contact when there is no pedal pressure.

Now with that in mind with no pedal pressure you should be able to overcome that spring pressure by pushing forward on the end of the fork. The fork end/slave push rod/slave piston should move forward with not much effort with one finger and return on it's own. Watch/feel for any sticking or binding and a consistent return to the same spot.

At this "returned" position there should be no play between the slave/fork/fork pivot/release brg/pressure plate. Again keep in mind any potential play is taken up by the relatively light slave return spring.

Once "full release" is verified the problem would seem to be limited to the clutch/flywheel. The step spec, previous clutch jobs/machining, disk orientation and release bearing condition/defects come into play.

Be aware that many folks have found disk orientation labeling to occasionally be wrong, like it was for some other application.
This is Toyotas feelings for the 1st gen Taco.

Lot's of wind here that's likely old news, but that's all I got.

    Thanks. Always appreciate the info.

I will check the full release. I did rebuild the Slave and Master so it has all new springs in them.

At this point doing some reading and from all the folks here. I think the disk is backwards maybe(can't remember) and the fly wheel is just bad. Not sure what else it could be. So...apart it all comes again..
