    Gorgeous Sport!

You have a moon-roof which I am without...I'm cool with that!

The other differences you noticed (from your opening post) are interesting. This is my first Tacoma so I'm just excited to have a New truck!

Also just went from a 2nd gen to 3rd gen. V6 6MTs in both.

Overall I think it is an incrementally better and more livable daily use vehicle.

-2nd gen seemed to make more torque at lower RPM
-2nd gen oil changes were much more convenient
-2nd gen had more bedside storage
-2nd gen cup holders could hold nalgene-sized bottles
-3rd gen interior design, feel, and quality is much better
-3rd gen quieter at highway speeds
-3rd gen 6 speed trans gears are spaced better, shifts tighter
--3rd gen MTs don't seem to be affected by the failing clutch release bearings that plagued the 2nd gens.... huge win here as they are a PITA to replace
-3rd gen frame resisting rust better, boxed areas a sealed from factory
-3rd gen better mileage. 21 was the best I managed on the 2nd gen; I have gotten over 25 on the 3rd gen.
-3rd gen trailer wiring harness located in bumper, rather than hanging below

Someone on here mentioned that the ecu learns your driving habits and the ecu will set shiftpoints based on your driving style.

So when I bought my new 2021, I drove it like I stole it the first 1000 miles. Drove it hard like if I was racing in the Baja 1000 against Ivan Stewart.
My transmission feels fine. Does not feel grannyish at all.

If your a DIY mechanic, I think you made a major mistake. but going to 4x4 is a nice step up. Don't forget to use the 4x4 often, as the 3rd gen seems to need it.

FYI, my 2020 broke-in at about 12~15k miles, then the truck got more smooth, and used 0 oil between my 7k mile oil changes. Used about 1/4 of a quart early on.

I've been accelerating rather quickly from stop lights and the wife has noticed...she says she wants to live! (meaning, stop driving so fast) lol

I also mix it up by not launching from stop lights and babying the engine.

Yes, someone has mentioned the ECU learns owner's driving habits...heck, even the Toyota app I have gives you a Pulse Report:

    Fast Acceleration
    Harsh Cornering
    Harsh Braking

My score is currently 79 and still in the green.

I did go looking for the charging ports in the console and they are there. I was originally looking for a cigarette lighter type and overlooked the USB ports. Thanks!

Just tell her at times you think you are back in LA and driving as if car jackers are chasing you again.

From the Dongar description of the adapter:

    • Powers your camera upon vehicle ignition ON
    • Designed for 2016+ Toyota Tacoma, '18+Tundra
    • Compatible with 2016-2020 Sienna
    • INCOMPATIBLE WITH BACKUP CAM DISPLAY MIRRORS
    • Recommended for cameras requiring less than 2A
I would suspect it's powering from the circuit for the auto-dim mirror rather than the Homelink circuit.

My bad. I was referring to the mirror, not the dongar tech adaptor. Some folks have figured out ways to power their dashcams while parked.

Been considering getting rid of my '13 for a '22, I find these threads interesting.
My '13 is low miles and trouble free, love the color too (Pyrite Mica), but the upgrades on the new models make it tempting.

    Your initial judgement probably won't improve. Besides my 2019 Tacoma, I also have a 2018 4Runner. I prefer the 4Runner's 5-speed!

    Enjoy the new truck.

No problem sir. When I responded I was addressing @RX1cobra's statement about getting an adapter to power from the mirror, so I assumed you were going along the same lines. My bad too :)

Picked up a '22 4Runner for the wife a few weeks ago, that thing runs and drives SO nice!

Congratulations! The Tacoma and 4Runner make a great combination. The 4Runner is solid and fun to drive. :)

    Thanks!
We both enjoy driving it. Road trips/outings will be a pleasure.
Now I need to decide if I'm keeping my '13 Tacoma or upgrading too.

The best thing you can do to address the wimpy power at low rpm is to get an aftermarket ecu tune for around $300. Well worth it.

If I were you, I’d keep the 2013. The only reason I have a 2021 is because I got a fantastic discount on it this time last year. But the world turned upside down since then. No way I’d pay MSRP+ if I had a good low miles Tacoma and 4Runner.
