    COOL Stuff I can't afford . . . But I bought anyway!
not sure turning th brake assist off is possible. But I’ve been wrong before and could be wrong now.

personally, I don’t see the problem with the brake assist, it’s helped a few time trying to get through downtown San Francisco with People who love to randomly stop.

the assist does not “brake for you” it helps you. If your not on the brakes hard enough, it will apply more braking power to get you to where it needs to be. If you get on the brakes harder as it’s helping it backs off and allow you to be in full control.

again, the only time the truck will do the braking for you is In the event it cannot slow the truck under normal deceleration in radar cruise. The only time the truck brakes in collision avoidance is if you do not apply the brakes within a set amount of time the system detects one.

all of this info is in the manual, knowing how these systems work helps you do drive with them, not against them.

I had a ‘17 OR. When I got the my ‘19 pro, I very happy with the safety sense systems. And if you do a good amount of commuting and highway driving, they can actually make things a bit more pleasant.

Radar cruise cannot be activated under 30mph (if I recall)same for lane departure. But, the radar cruise will bring the truck to a full stop in traffic. But then again, you shouldn’t be using cruise in Med to heavy traffic anyway.

but, alas, to each their own. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it. However, i revert back to, “why buy it if you’re not going to use it?”

I'm not a 12v guru, so I'm figuring this out as I go, but now that I've slept I think you may be on to something. If I just stick a 5v triggered relay in between the two wires I should be able to do exactly what I'm looking for. As long as I can find the wires under the dash.

So, I'm weird. I drive 1.5hrs each way in Boston traffic and I specifically required a stick shift truck. I won't use a cruise control that has access to the brakes, which is the first thing it did when I first tried radar assisted cruise. It's been avoided ever since in favor of Cruise Classic. I set the cruise to the speed I want to go when I know I can use cruise at the speed I want to go. I will say that I have actually grown fond of the physical cruise controls, they are actually easier to use than on my last car.

As for "why buy it", I bought the whole truck, not the cruise control. I required a stick shift pickup, and the only other option was the Gladiator... and fuck the Gladiator.

That is also the reason why I do not trust AEB and LKA, and disable those too if it is possible.

When I first tried it, I still had at least 10 car lengths in front of me. Plenty of time for engine braking. It hit the brakes and got shut off immediately.

I had no intention of doing that. I was just illustrating my thought process that determined this was a terrible idea before it was suggested.

    Yeah
So pretty much you just want to bitch then? It’s mean you’re at the right place, TW is a shithole now days…

the answer to your question is no, no there’s not a way to disable it or set standard CC to be default. You’ve got you’re answer but you just keep dragging it out. It’s not Friday anymore let this thread die.
We’ve given you workable options, if you don’t want to perform any of them that’s fine but quit being so hostile my guy.

Ahh, the good ol’ days, way back to last June when you joined this site and it wasn’t a shithole.

I get a few phantom “BRAKE” alerts from the collision avoidance system a year. Seems to match up when there is sun glare or high beams hitting the front camera.

If your idea of a workable option is to point the sensor at the sky, you probably shouldn't be offering any advice in the first place.

What scenarios does it slam the brakes on? I've only had mine a couple months but I haven't had anything like that happen with mine and I use it daily.

You mentioned it did it a "half block" away. Are you using it in town? Would you use regular cruise in town?

you drive in dense traffic 1.5 hrs/day and you want to constantly be applying the brakes/accel and disable the thing that takes workload off of the driver?

Well, since I drive stick that feature isn't that useful in stop-and-go traffic, what with the stalling and all. In dense traffic I don't use cruise at all.

Ahh, yeah with a stick cruise is not as universal.

There are many settings that can be changed in the Toyota TechStream software, like power window, turn signal, climate control behavior, etc. I have only used the older version that supports earlier MYs but it might be worth investigating. The may be a TW member that would know.
