How do we use the Bed Rails?

Could someone show me a pic of what type of devices are out there to be used with the Bed Rails? I am thinking of adding some fishing rod holders soon, but I have no idea what people use to secure items.

I am also considering a bed cover in the spring, and I am tilting towards a hard top tri fold type, which would allow me to keep my fishing poles in rod holders and then I can lock the cover when I go fishing. Is there a tri fold that utilizes the bed rails? I hate to remove them because they seem such a great idea. I can attach a jack later, etc...

I used some washers to mount my CB antenna to my bed rail. Worked awesome.

Pdopy3 (I think) has a fishing pole mount in the bed of his truck.

 

Use the forum seach, but some people have found that the nuts for the electrical mounting hardware fits in the rails. I don't know what the product is called even thought it's used all over at my work...it looks like square, "C" channel with holes, used for mounting conduit and equipment. It uses these rectangular nuts with springs that, apparently, fit right in the bed rails.

use em for anything you can think of.... obviously you have the cletes that fit into them for general tie downs and such, all other uses just come from creativity and home depot... i'm pretty sure everyones built their own rod mounts, those are light pieces of equipment, obviously the rail is a U shape so you can slide lock washers and a bolt into the inside of em and bolt anything to em you can think of... so normal things are: high lift jacks, lights, CB antennas, and many more

 

Here is a link to McMaster Carr for some Electrical strut nuts that will fit in the rails. Also what I used for mounting things in My rails was these t slot nuts for maching applications.

Just measure the rails you have and get what parts you need. You can call them and they can set you up with an account and pay by credit card. Awesome company. You can spend a lot of money with them. I have.

I have 2 of those in my truck. I bought them, and an oem bed mat, off a co-worker who was trading his Tacoma in on a new Civic.

Once my surf rods are rigged and ready I mount them this way......






I made a cargo rack that I no longer have but it mounted to the rails as well....





These rails can be used for all sorts of stuff.. Don't know why all truck brands don't have them.

Just installed a pair of the Locking SD's today. The bike shop in town only had the grey ones though so I took the rattle can to them. Turned out great.

 

I went to the hardware store and bought a piece of metal to use for mounting my CB antenna... it had some pre-drilled holes that lined up for what I needed.. the inside of the bed rail is 1inch in height, so I just got a 1x3 and used a dermel to reduce length to something easier to move around in there.

I liked the post after yours about the guy using the washers... I wished I thought of that would have been much much easier.

 

Thanks for the replies; It is much clearer now what I have to do for my spring fishing rod set up, and much much more.

I wonder, do they make lockable rail end pieces, so thieves can not open the rail and remove the stuff?
