I used the original sealant. The original cures at room temperature and becomes pliable with high heat. I did not see a need to add any more. Time will tell if I spring a leak and condensation forms. When that happens, then i'll put a bead of high heat silicone around the edge - i'm seriously hoping I never have to touch these things again though...

awesome, thanks for the info...seeing the photos and how good the light output looks compared to the HIDs with the stock housing looks (which i am running right now). I am really thinking about doing this...hmmmmmm.....

if you don't want to do as much cutting and custom work....get the mini d2s kit (that's what i'm getting)

the only modding of the headlights is just removing the lense, then reinstalling it

the output is as good as the fx-r kit but it is still pretty amazing, check the pics on the TRS site, you'll be very happy with it i think

i ordered mine and it should ship out in the next couple days, my shields i ordered are on back order

I've read some good things about the mini morimoto kits (is that the same as the one you're talking about?). Infact that is the kit I would order if I go this route since it seemed they had good output, crisp cutoff, and minimal modification.

One question I do have is, how do you line up the mounting of the projector and how do you know its mounted straight prior to reinstalling it back onto the truck?

what i'll do it get it all mounted up and before i reseal the lights, take them out to the truck to make sure they're fairly lined up (i really don't think there's too much movement with the mini kits, not like he full retrofit style anyways)

once i know i've got them mounted relatively close, seal them up and once i've remounted them, i'll do the final aligment with the oem adjustments on the lights

if the mini kits do not require cutting and if somehow they can incorporate the usage of the factory H4 bulb seat mounting then they should be aimed perfectly. I don't see any difficulty here :)

With the Mini D2S the projector has no rotational adjustment. There is a locking ring that lines the projector up with the factory bulb holder keeping it from turning. That being said, if you get them installed your cutoff can be off just a little and you can rotate the projector from the back just enough to straighten it out. There is a tiny bit of wiggle in the design.

There you go guys! Let me say that aiming the FX-Rs within the housing was tedious. Overall I estimate I was off by about 1mm to the left on the pass side and 1mm high on the drivers side but once you drill the holes you're pretty much committed. Up and down adjustments are easily accomodated with the factory alignment screws but rotational adj and left/right adjustments are not available :(

Just keep in mind that with a smaller lens the beam pattern output isn't as broad/wide but it might just be good enough. Not having to cut is certainly a BIG advantage.

    Please post pics!!!

Selling my 96 Tacoma to fund the FJ80 build up.
I like the mini H1's behind the oem dot housing. That might actually pass for pretending to be legal.

One of the main reasons for posting / hating like I did is I've been working with a WWII vet on improving his lights for night time driving. He doesn't get out much at night but with the short days sometimes he has no choice or gets caught out after dark.

His issue is 2 fold ~
    1. His 99 Caravan has crap for lights (stock) with clouded lenses.
    2. He has trouble readjusting his vision from blinding oncoming lights ~ Mainly these new DIY kits.

The Mini H1 Projectors would be a great mod for him if I could get them to pass inspection here. Seriously I was hoping some one would chime in and show me how to do it legally so I could get him taken care of.

Honestly. No one is going to say anything about a projector retrofit that is aimed right with all the people running around with HIDs in stock halogen housings.

Sorry to hear about this gentleman's trouble with the lights. I love how even when you're asking for help you continue to be condescending.

For one thing... I've seen some of those old Caravans and how clouded those plastic lenses can get. I would first recommend those things get polished back to clear again. That in itself will be a huge difference.

Secondly... "Mainly these new DIY kits" I suspect you are confusing yourself with HIDs in non-projector/hid designed housings. The "blinding" oncoming light that he/you see is mostly due to HID kits being used in OEM Halogen housings. Someone already made the argument on here for you to observe projector oncoming beam pattern from say.. a BMW or an Audi or even a Lexus for that matter. They are hardly blinding due to the nature of the clear cutoff (if aimed properly!). Ultimately, I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

Anyway, cleaning/polishing out your OEM lens is about as good as you're going to get unless you want to do a better retrofit solution and process the DOT inspections & testing that way. I believe you can't even "legally" upgrade your headlights to the 85watt halogens. Though you can try the Sylvania bulbs and waste money - they are worthless to me.
