Gonna do brake pads and rotars, any advice?

My AC Delco pads only lasted roughly a year. Any advice on a brand name to go with? Galvanized, ceramic, asbestos ?

What type of front rotars and pads would you recommend for moderate Phoenix to and from work 20 miles each way stop and go traffic 5 days a week?

Im a fan of good pads paired with cheap rotors. So I do OEM pads and then find the cheapest rotors possible.

 

I JUST did my fronts last week with all NAPA's best.
Wanted the BEST rotors since the cheap ones ALWAYS warp and give you the "whump-whump-whump" when you step on the brakes.

Pics below of the parts. I ordered most of the parts in several orders since the NAPA website gave you $20 off every order of $75 or more, so I split up my order and ended up saving $80! (I bought 555 LBJ's & front sway bar ends too).

 

Lol any rotor always warps, not just cheap ones. Feel free to search other forums. Tons of people agree cheap rotors are just fine. It's just a hunk of iron. I've run cheap rotors on every car I've owned for the last 15 years and never had an issue as you describe. To each their own.

Consider doing the 1st gen Tundra caliper and rotor upgrade. Best mod ever on a 1st get Tacoma IMO.

What about the booster, that probably needs to be beefed up too, no?

 

It's a very straightforward swap. No booster or MC upgrade needed. Just calipers, pads, rotors, dust shields(or modify yours), and I recommend doing SS brake lines since you have to remove them anyways.

Or save some money and buy Akebono ceramic pads.

 

Do yall know if there is a similar set of instructions to beef up the 2nd gen brakes - like the Tundra --> 1st gen stuff?

$60 Akebono ACT436 Proact Ultra Premium Ceramic Disc Brake Pad kit, GREY

Akebono ACT436 pads, and whatever rotors you want (or just get the current ones turned).

 

Before you spend the money for the upgrade, know that you will need 16" or bigger rims in order to clear the larger calipers.

 

I need to find out just how much the larger caliper needs be modified to work with the stock 15" wheels.

I have far to many vehicles with 15" wheels and new tires to have an odd ball set of 16" i guess I could just run the 16" wheels on the Front

 

Or... have better braking, and less rotor warpage by doing the Tundra brakes AND Akebono brake pads

 

15 inch wheels will not work with the Tundra brakes. Caliper is too big.

 

Judging by his profile picture. If those are the wheels that are still on his truck, I believe the Tundra calipers should work.

 

My question was just how much to big ?

I guess I need to buy a Caliper and see how much grinding it takes to see if it will work .

 

Quite a bit too big. Some 16 inch wheels don't even work. That's an aweful lot of grinding. Even if you could grind enough off, I just think it's a bad idea to do that much (and that kind of) modification to things that can kill you (or someone else) if they fail.
