Hi, I recently purchased a tacoma 1998 4x4 v6 a few months ago. Everything was fine till a few weeks ago when I noticed my brakes not working properly, the brake pedal is sinking to the floor in order to brake. Being an old vehicle I figured maybe there’s Air in the brake lines so I bled them only to find out that the left rear tire did not bleed fluid only air. The brakes seem a little better but not quite there, could it be dude ti the left rear brake?

Also upon inspecting the vehicle I notice the abs light never turns on and I looked under the hood and the module isn’t there :/.

I’am not knowledge in that aspect and this is my first car with abs

Call the dealer with the VIN. A previous owner could have yanked the ABS

If you have ABS there’s a module under the hood. When facing the truck looking in the engine bay it’ll be on your left near the fire wall. Bunch of brake lines going to it.

Separately, have you tried to bleed the BPV up by the spare tire?

I think you've probably got a master cylinder issue.

Can you get pics of the brake plumbing under the hood? We might be able to tell if it had ABS.

I can only guess The ABS module failed the ABS system was removed That would be my move if it failed

Some place on the rear brake line your drawing in air

20 plus year old truck who knows what was done.

You can also get some hints about the ABS by looking at the rear axle (assuming nobody's swapped the axle, of course). There are three different axle housings that I'm aware of:

    * Non-locker non-ABS. This axle does not have ABS sensor ports. If your truck has this axle, it never had ABS.
    * Non-locker ABS. This axle has ABS sensor ports (obviously). If your truck has this axle, it probably had ABS from the factory.
    * E-locker. All e-locker axles are ABS-capable. Non-ABS-equipped trucks came from the factory with plate covering the sensor port.

These trucks only had rear-wheel ABS. (I have been corrected--this may be true for earlier years, not all years.) ABS delete is a somewhat common mod, as it frees up under-hood space and some people view the ABS as ineffective or actively harmful.

Here's what the ABS sensor will look like if your truck has it:

While your post is spot on with the axle info, you may want to specify which years you think are rear-wheel only ABS, as at least of 2001, I have factory 4 wheel ABS.

The person might have been thinking about the LSPV to limit rear brake application on empty trucks .

People tend to sometimes confuse that with a limited ABS when being used to a new ABS vehicle now your looking at a Mid eighties with no ABS

ABS only on the rear axle defeats the purpose I have never seen a Toyota with other then 4 wheel ABS

The space where your ABS module should be is empty.

So I do have an abs module? I’m guessing it is turned off because the light never turns on as I turn the vehicle on.
