Here’s a good write up about installing some wire mesh around those openings. It’s for 2nd Gen but pretty much the same.

I did this last summer after I went camping in Eastern Oregon and saw a chipmunk crawl up into my engine compartment at camp. Made me nervous so decided to take some precautions when I got home. Good luck!

The only time that machine stops is for gas, oil, and tires. Impressive.

Watched a youtube vid a while back where a guy mixed a few drops of peppermint oil, soap, water and sprayed it on likely rodent spots under the hood of his Tacoma...:notsure:

I installed the same turn signals. Couldn't help myself, had to wire up the DRL's. Wired to come on with the marker lights. Pics with white DRL and amber turns.

I may go back in at some point and run the wires, but I'm not sure if/when I'll get motivated to do it. It looks good on your truck.

Thanks. I figured that while I had everything apart I might as well run the wires. I also made my own puddle lights in the mirror so knocked it all out at one time.

After Michael lifted the roof off the corner of our house, and there were no trees left, squirrels thought our house would be a good home. Bought a few of the ultrasonic devices. Was working quietly inside one evening and saw a squirrel posted up beside the device looking at it. POS. Took it back for a refund. Switched to live traps and caught about 1/2 dozen before I was able to get the roof sealed up.

Maybe they work better for non-tree rodents?

and Peppermint oil. All rodents hate the smell of peppermint. Soak the end of a few Q-tips with the oil and place strategically (engine bay, wire harness') outside the truck, once a year.

Installed some camp lights. Harbor freight specials, we'll see how long they hold up.

I doubt they work at all, in that case. There was a test of one that's supposed to repel cockroaches of all things. They actually climbed onto it because it was warm. I strongly suspect the only real ways to prevent rodent damage are to physically protect the wiring harness and trap rodents where you park the truck. The latter can be easy, but I really don't know about the former.

Looks nice, thanks for the link!

However, I already made the trip to the hardware store and came up with my own solution :D

Dude - that is NICE. Care to share the size/type info on those, please? And do they come in/out easily in terms of the fit?
