Just received an email reply from SP about my question of exactly what does “12-14 week build cycle” means. That is the completion date and they will contact me 3 weeks prior to schedule the install! They originally said the 1st of June! Apparently they have improved the build process, or hired and trained more builders. Good for them!

Not directly camper related, but part of my build nonetheless. New moto/bike carrier combo.

The moto rack I got last year has done what I got it to do. I bought this particular carrier because it would not interfere with lowering the tailgate when the carrier was in the lowered position. Mountain bike lived inside the bed, all nice and cozy. This setup worked, but along with poor ground clearance for the carrier, raising and lowering it each time I took the bike out got old.

Versa-haul's carrier has a 2" receiver on the end you can use to tow a small trailer or add a cargo rack to. My Thule T2 is too long but OneUp's single carrier has a small profile and is pretty light. I found a Versahaul on Craigslist for less than half the retail cost and ordered a OneUp. Done! Only downside is I can't open the rear hatch at all or lower the tailgate without unloading the moto. Every setup has trade-offs... But I will have easy access to the MTB on the rear rack which is more important as I primarily camp on roadtrips and spend minimal time where I am away from the truck/bike when not riding. And I can still put it inside if needed, it will just take a few extra mins to unload/load the moto (twice, haha). On the plus side I'll have more room in the bed. I have been climbing up the tailgate to get into the tent rather than access from inside, so no issues there.

Old setup, MTB living large inside. You can see the carrier sticking down below the bumper. Only had 8" ground clearance or so. No bueno, even being careful.

New setup. Easy MTB access. Better ground clearance but no access thru rear hatch or tailgate without unloading moto.

Evdog, it looks like you really improved the ground clearance! Still you could get even more ground clearance with a 2-4” riser hitch. Not that you need it.
With all the doors and zipper windows in a SP, you still have other entry options…ladder to bunk area for instance.

The guy I bought it from actually gave me a riser extension that he had been using with the versahaul. I'd be hesitant to use it unless I find I still need more clearance. It has 4" lift and 8" extension which would put a lot more leverage on the suspension.

I've also seen the welds fail on those a couple times. A lot of them are made with cheap Chinese steel. A failure would be bad enough with just a moto on board, but seriously no bueno to have it fail on the highway with an expensive MTB mounted up behind it.

Just got the notice production has started on my X1, woo hoo! I've got a 2nd gen short bed 4 door Tacoma with a Front Runner Slimline II low profile rack installed. It's about 3" above the roof (measured at the rear center). Will the X1 clear this ok?

I've Googled and searched this thread, I see others have modified racks to accommodate the X1 but not seen this particular rack addressed.

I also asked Super Pacific, they want me to remove the rack before install. I'd rather not unless it is really necessary.

    Thoughts?

Personally I would want 1 1/2-2” of clearance (refer to the 22.75” dimension). JMO

Are you on stock bed rail caps? I have a 2014 DCSB and can get you a measurement from cab to bottom of X1 if you tell me where you want the exact measurement. I am running the KBvoodoo bed rail caps with the SP starboard spacer (3/4" spacer they provide to accommodate aftermarket bed rail caps). Let me know.

ridgewalker, thanks for the drawing. Looks like it isn't even close to being high enough. I measure about 24" from the bed rail to the top of the rack.
I'll take the rack off and see if I can modify it to keep just the front part after the the X1 is installed.

Just in case, rjvincent1, if you don't mind please measure the clearance at the center of the cab about 12" in from the rear. Also, do you recommend the KBvoodoo bed rail caps? Does it result in a better seal against dust ingress? Thanks!

Doubt it. That will have to come off. With a Prinsu for example it’s 1/2” off and we trimmed off 1 1/2” for most folks. Not as easy with the front runner. even if it squeezes on it will certainly hit. If you to keep that style then looking at a shortened one of they make it for one of the other wedge setups

Working on some mounts for the KC Cyclone V2 lights. Hit me up if you have any interest in getting in on a run after I test out my proto. These will be able to be mounted in the extrusion, either inside or outside.

Are you thinking a bar like the other or an actual cup Similar to the various ones KC makes now for v2? Bonus if it works for v1 and v2. I picked up a bunch of v1 before v2 came out but haven’t got around to mounting them.

@DavidS Got a set of those Welland brackets. Seems like if you file out a bit of the top portion of the slide section you could get it to sit at a 90. See yellow line on pic. shelf bracket.jpg

@gnardoggie I came up with these years ago when the Cyclones first came out. Obviously for the v1 design. Kinda lost interest in them and never actually ran any Cyclones.. but I have the files for them still if you or anyone is interested. They are flush mounts. I'd be curious what you come up with. I think I'm just going to run some S2's out back.. but always like to see other stuff.

Will do - I have a bunch of flat cut stuff on order then i plan on tinkering with the optimal bend/positioning for both an inside and outside option if all goes as planned.

That would definitely work, but if you messed up, you are only out $10. Aren't they a lot stouter than you imagined?

Much stronger than I anticipated. If I go this route I may change out that crappy pin with a true bolt n nut setup.

I have been going through all the posts in this threads, and really enjoy reading the builds and reviews people have with their Super Pacific. After all the reviews, I have decided to go with Super Pacific. I was wondering if anybody has a deposit spot that they no longer need anymore and want to sell?
