Ok push the diagram aside because as u know the truck doesn’t have the rest of the wiring to go that route. If you are ok with using a millimeter pull your stalk out and look for continuity between two of the three wires (shown in the picture below this is a is300 stalk I think yours may be the same) when you operate the fog light switch. once it’s found you can ground one side and use the other to activate your fog light relay!

    upload_2020-12-18_14-41-55.jpg
So basically I took the wires out of the circuit and use just the switch portion of the stalk.

Thanks for the input. My connector is already wired. Both pins, 10, 11. The #10 wire is a lot thicker/ bigger gauge then 11, would that be the + trigger wire to the relay.?

Ok now I think if you check the wires there it outputs a signal depending on the position of the headlight switch. That’s why I chose to simplify and just use the switch as a interrupter I want to control my fog lights anytime independent of light switch position

interesting yours is pinned allready.. technically the fuse box does have a fog fuse in my 01 tacoma. ive yet to figure out where the wire goes internally to the fuse box though..

Any Ideas.? My truck has the steering wheel mod. Looking to use the Fog Light Button...small light in Cab..........

Looking at your Black connector, that plugs into the back side of the Spiral, looking for a pin# to connect the Fog light button. Simple on/off button? Going to connect up to a small light in my Cab.
I have pin # 9 plug. I do get a small reading, from this pin, but when I connect the light to it, push the button---zippo........... I do have the light grounded separately. Do I have to connect to a ground off the plug?. Or do I need a power source to pin 9, then connect to the pos side of the light.? The light barley pulls any power. its like a tiny bulb.....

    Thanks.....

I'm not sure If this has been answered or not (apologize if it has) But how did you program the module to accept the Bluetooth commands from the added right hand SWC?

    Thank You!

The ribbon connects the two controllers on each side
And then there are two wires that come off the steering wheel to go into the programmer behind your stereo
One headphone style plug that plugs into the back of the stereo.
It’s my understanding that the buttons work through only those two wires and send signals with different resistance levels.

I guess I should start getting the parts together and I'll be that much closer to having a 1.5 gen tacoma.

Same. I’ve had the buttons for over a year but never invested the time to hunt down a wheel and airbag setup. Procrastinating at its peak level.

I want to thank @mechanicjon again for this write-up. I have been enjoying the steering wheel controls mated to a head unit with a 10 inch screen since Thanksgiving 2019.

I also want to encourage TacomaWorld members to take on the challenge to perform this mod. The parts are out there. Here are links to more install pictures and a parts list to help create your own 1.5 gen Tacoma.

The upgrade is worth the time.
