They're not going to be much brighter than OEM / stock, if at all.

So its looks like replacing the entire units are the way to improve the fogs

The only yellow ones available from that link are rated at 780 lumens and are $120. Is the factory fog an H11? H11s are rated at 1250 lumens.

You can get these in Sport Fog Yellows for $220 and are measured at 1300 lumens.

Yep. The good news - they maintain enough of a pattern to meet compliance requirements in most fog lights, and they'll give you the color you're looking for. The bad news - LEDs are not quite as focused as the original halogen, and about the same output, so they are primarily a cosmetic upgrade.

Replacement housings are really the best route to take for any lighting upgrade, as no LED bulb will be able to improve the output in a substantial way, compared to a brand new halogen bulb, using the same stock housing. Crash has done a lot of testing to find the best halogen bulb for the factory headlight, and you might consider purchasing new halogen bulbs first, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

Truthfully, yes. The good news is that the upgrade in performance (if you go with any of the Diode Dynamics SS3's) is dramatic.

@Diode Dynamics any official word if a pair of 12" driving pattern bars are SAE compliant?

A pair of 6" bars is compliant in either the fog or driving pattern. A single 12" bar is Not compliant, as it not considered two separate lightsources, and exceeds the maximum intensity limits for either lamp type.

The J581/driving light max intensity is 75k cd per lamp, the J583 is something like 18,000???

Welp, who wants a pair of Pro's so I can get 4 of these? LOL

I'm curious as to how bright the backlit modes are during the day for rearward facing options.

Glad I opted for the regular SS3 yellow max's then. They're plenty bright.

I have SSC2 sports (4000K) in the rear bumper with the amber backlights tied into the turn signals. They're bright enough to see but have a kind of checkered pattern on the wall behind them, it's not a smooth spread like the main chip in the flood optic. I'd consider it maybe as a dim area illumination, but barely adequate. The kind of lights you'd turn on if you were showing up late to a drive-in movie.

Edit: I see you said " during the day". They're bright enough to see but certainly not focused enough to replace a turn signal light. I can definitely see my taillight signals further away than the backlights when I click my fob to lock the truck.

I went red backlight since that can work for turn and brake.

I too am going down this rabbit hole. Original idea was a pro or max fog or driving light painted with Tamiya transparent red. After getting beaten up :) here and on the candlepower forum I ordered a real rear fog light.

Yes, but we administer "gentle beatings."

Do we know if the SS1s or 2s will melt snow?

His words may be harsh, but it is wise to listen.

I think my SS1s are due in tomorrow, so I’ll have data soon.
