I have a 2WD 2017 tacoma acces cab. How hard is it to put a posi in the rear? Can I just switch the carrier bearings and go, or does the lash have to be reset? Is there a video, somewhere? I'm moving to Denver and I can't afford a 4WD truck right now.
YDGTV6 is the Eaton number I have come up with. Is that the one? or is there a better choice? This is an all street truck.
    thx!

I don't know about your 17, but my 21 4x2 goes into auto LSD mode when you turn off the traction control. It gives you a bit more oomph. Would that be enough for your situation?

LSD just works on the brakes. I want both wheels to drive..
a little weight in the back and some decent snow tires and I'll be fine. Thx

we are on the same page here, i call the auto LSD 'simulated positraction". been wondering about this since i bought my 2016. my question is will the computer somehow realize the change and throw codes. also what do you do with the wiring going to wherever from the switch in the cab, just leave it alone and never use the switch? guess there are a few choices out there, need to seek out and call a few places until you find the dealer that has sold them specifically for 3rd gen's and can answer all your questions.
    keep us advised.

You will need to check at a minimum and adjust as necessary in order to do the job properly.

Whenever you install a new carrier (LSD, locker, spool, etc.) you typically can get away with swapping over the ring rear and carrier bearings and resetting only the backlash and carrier bearing preload. However, it is always a good idea to check the pinion depth to confirm it is good.

If you buy an already set up 3rd member then you just need to swap out the entire 3rd and it will be ready to run.

I walk through the procedure here of swapping out a carrier for a front air locker install. The procedure is similar for any other axle. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-arb-air-locker-diy-install-thread.692979/

The part number you listed in the original post fits an axle with threaded adjusters to set backlash and carrier bearing preload. However, I do not know if that is the axle in your 2wd truck.

The skid control ECU will have no idea that an LSD is installed and the auto-LSD will function as normal if enough wheel slip is detected. And in that case it would work alongside of and on top of the mechanical LSD. No issues would be created.

The only thing that could possibly be affected in a negative way is the expected response to individual wheel braking by the VSC. However, the difference of braking through a simple LSD or an open diff is so small that it realistically won't alter the intended outcome of this system either.

By grabbing the brake on the spinning tire torque is moved to the not spinning tire causing both wheels to drive. Don't get me wrong a mechanical or fluid LSD of some sort will likely work a little better but won't be a huge difference from the stock E-LSD for getting moving on the slick.

I've driven this truck with the stock E-LSD and it doesn't work worth a shit, in snow.

    Thanks!
How do I find out what axles I have? Is the Tru Track a better choice?

I had installed trutracs front and rear of my old JK, they were great never felt like I needed more traction. They work good so long both tires of the axle have traction.

With the auto lsd they may work as good as a locker with the brake dragging the wheel with less traction forcing it to lock

see @crazysccrmd post in this thread, go to his link even though you don't want the 3rd member and call them. am sure they will answer all your questions since what they are selling is for 3rd gens. maybe they have what you want but regardless a place to talk to and get info. IMO

auto lsd is great. push the button, tires don't spin (obviously within limits, won't work on ice or deep snow). a true LSD is going to work about the same .

you can do the aftermarket locker. I just had the e-locker installed on my truck when I had my gears done. It gives me the option to have an anytime rear locker now... So I'm sure it would work for you as well... I chose the e-locker over the air locker because of the numerous air leaks my buddies have on their Jeeps due to air locker leaks... With the factory installed locker, you need to be in 4WD low, I believe, to engage the locker. Not if you have it installed aftermarket...
