I am hoping to get some telescoping poles and a long tarp. Light, cheap and a bit more versatile. I had a actual awning (cvt 4x6) and it’ll even that was a pain to setup, it was heavy and not very versatile.

mentioned the Slumberjack roadhouse tarp. As i have a similar shaped (from what i can tell) hammock tarp, i'm going to see what that will probably end up looking like come the spring. my largest concern is overtightening the tarp and the RTT collapses on itself or something.

 

Kinda pricey at $200US. You can find cheap awnings with aluminum frames. What about the smittybilt tire awning?

Considering telescoping poles are close to $70 on Amazon. Not terrible price for 10ft length

 

basically looking for something that i can set up quicky and set down just as fast.
as i've noticed at the Ardbeg runs it takes me at minimum 30 minutes to set camp down and i'd like to reduce that as much as i can. the Tarp is usually the longest bit of kit i need to deal with.

Absolutely. I am in the same boat. Also trying to keep it light myself too. A tarp and some poles don’t weigh much and can be mounted anywhere.

my immediate issue with that is i have a 5ft bed. backrack is less actually a small number of issues;

1) backrack is lower than the RTT when it's deployed. so i would need to be attached to the RTT, up and over, using the frame of the RTT as a way to keep things steady. (which i'm already doing ATM if i go with that tear drop idea)
2) i would need a 16ft x 6ft tarp or some odd shape to actually get any use out of it. as i'd only have 2-3 feet past the tailgate and would like to have at least 8 feet of it.
3) if attached to the back rack - i feel like it's gonna be a pain to put it away (unless i do some rotary/rolling tarp/ retractable tarp crank thing

Maybe it's an idea what will work now that i think about it...

Yeah considered the suction up thing as well, i would just need 1 or 2, but i would be limited to the width of the truck. would still need tent poles which i'm no opposed to getting. just want easy set up and down

Can bolt onto the base of the backrack and have it go up and over.





Could also dual use it by having it hold down and wrap the RTT/ cover it since i've been constantly strapping a tarp down over it. i could just use the same tarp to cover it over.

A regular tarp with some extra grommets put into it make it custom fit.

DIY BACKRACK BIKE FORK MOUNT.

Truck needed a bike rack, Considered getting an after market one for $200 like this Sport Rack Downshift Plus 1-bike Roof carrier and having that mounted to the bed cross bars that i have built before.


But $200 is a stretch and i'd be a bitch to take off and on the Rack system onto the cross bars.

However i dont have a spare front wheel axle to thread through the pipe and stumbled across this;

This is basically exactly what i was looking for especially since i have added the L-Track system to the Backrack at one point in time (i since then removed it but i still have the mounts and parts to be able to mount back into the top.
$70 but it's 90% what i'd think i needed.

Assume the flat mount but with a bike on the top bar of the backrack

Thought about it some more and gave up on the idea of using the L-Track.
Problem is that if i have the bike forks mount to the top of the back rack, then I'm clipping the 10 foot protection bar at McDonalds or something.
Otherwise, if i mount it to the Lower L-Track bracket on the Backrack;
1) It jiggles
2) i can't open the tonneau cover all the way up with the lower bracket on.
3) i can build it for less than $70 probably.

Back to the DIY drawing board So i built one after coming up with an idea.
First off Design Requirements;
1) Ultra Low profile
2) keep it Stuipid, Simple. No complicated engineering shit.
3) Has little effect on Crossbars, willing to use 1 if needed for a tire mount.
4) does not obstruct action of tonneau cover when bike rack/ fork mount is not in use.
5) can also work with HoboRTT when in transport mode (folded up).

Found $30 Fork Mounts From MEC. Could have gotten Amazoom but it's faster to just walk into the store. it's pretty sturdy.
$20 on stainless steel bolts and other hardware (enough for a second mount, would just need another fork mount and i'


MEC Fork mount somehow fit perfectly in between the rods of the safety rack

I got lucky with the Marlin 5 (large frame) since the marlin 6 would take - 3 to 8 weeks to show up if i were to get a large frame and 8 months for an XL Frame. and only 2 places within 50km of me had the bikes in a Large frame.
place in Brantford sold their only Marlin 5 today

Place in oakville had 3 Marlin 5s. 2 Blacks and one fancy pants colour Yellow Blue fade.
all 3 sold today as well. I was one of them thankfully.


i've been saving up for a "toy" of some sort whether it to be a VR headset, rear bumper for the truck, a Bike, or whatever.

Because of the gas hit, and the Taco'd rim chat - i might as well just get back into shape with a bike.
