Glad to see more courteous drivers out there. I hate getting behind jacked up trucks with almost the entire wheel exposed and no flaps. Just slinging shit everywhere. And of course the asshat in the Jeep I pass every morning at 5am with 2 light bars, ditch lights, and high beams on... :censored:

Cut off the other steps and then they will become sliders. That what I wanted to do.
I dont like how far sliders stick out, I saw somone on here cut off the steps of their Predators and It didnt look to bad.
Are you gonna sell the Predators now? :anonymous:

When I was in I was always told that was standard procedure to kill your lights when approaching military checkpoints. I seem to remember seeing signs saying the same but I don't remember seeing those signs when I was working on an Airforce base. Hopefully your roommate got off with a warning :D

So, I played with the setting and with it turned down it doesn't turn on when I want it to. I think I'm going to stick with Always On and let the auto-off timer handle the rest.

One thing this area of the thread got me thinking about is that light sensor on the dash. I always drive with android auto but the app appears to be really sensitive to light, even more than the automatic headlights. It was annoying me this morning so I threw a glove over to that side of the dash and sure enough the screen stayed in night mode. If I end up keeping the truck (I find out in 10 days if I get to keep the truck) I'm probably going to see if I can apply tint to that sensor to dial it down a bit, or black it out to just keep the truck in night mode permanently.

Anything can be disconnected. The question is really, "will the truck try to annoy me to death until I plug it back in?"

Electric tape. I always drive with my lights on intentionally at the switch, but hate how it dims the screen in some cars during the day. There needs to be an adjustment setting for cab screen brightness.

I like the way you think! That’s a great idea. If you do it and it’s effective please post it. That also has me wondering what would happen if one were to just unplug the sensor. Then again, it might trigger an error code which would prevent it from either starting or having full power. o_O

Eh, I think at most it would cause an idiot light on the instrument cluster or a message in the center display in the cluster.

My wife's Impreza has that, but it makes me laugh because she's constantly adjusting it. I'm ok with my cluster being dark during the day. I can see it just fine without the lights at full brightness and when it does get dark it is the appropriate brightness then too. Come to think of it, my Mazda3 had an adjustment but I never used it. That car didn't have an auto-off timer though so I only used my headlights when it was appropriate rather than always-on.

Predators without steps don't equate to sliders. They're still not bolted to the frame, just the rocker panel. Maybe they'll look like sliders, but functionally there will not be much protection.

There are some nice sliders out there at are pretty high and tight; they hardly stick out.

My wife made the mistake of thinking our Corolla was auto off.. i believe there is a brightness setting in the stereo unit, the unit just gets more dim when the lights turn on. I like to keep my settings as low as possible, the extra dimming is noticeable on the screen.

Dashmat leaves it exposed. Maybe get a dashmat and place something underneath to cover the sensor?

Yes. @Jerry311SD should check out the sliders from either Warfab Armor or Running4Tacos with no kick outs. They are pretty unobtrusive.

Quick question about Apple CarPlay. Hardwired via Lightning cable is the only option, right? What happens when Apple phases out the charging port in the next couple of years?

Eh... I plan to get real sliders anyhow. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in the structural integrity of even the main tube body on these for use as sliders.

I can't imagine these are worth a whole helluva lot now... Given the condition they're in, I'd honestly planned to throw 'em up on here for free once I get some real sliders.

some aftermarket head units offer wireless car play. Only option for my stock jbl is hardwire to the back of the unit. I unplugged mine and plugged in a wireless CarPlay adapter so I don’t have to plug mine in it just connects automatically.

I had an 86 Audi 4kQ. The high beam indicator on the dash was so bright, i took the instrument cluster apart and put tape over it with a tiny little hole in the center.
